Images from this year’s finalists of The AOP Photographers Awards - open to AOP photographer members - and The AOP Open Awards - open to everyone - will be on display at The Truman Brewery, off Brick Lane and opposite the legendary Rough Trade East record store, right in the creative heart of London’s East End. Do note that the exhibition is open for one weekend only - Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October 2013.
AOP Press Release
30 Years of The AOP Photographers Awards
30 Years | 2013 is the 30th year of The AOP Photographers Awards! In the first ever AOP Awards book the following mission statement was set out:
“The Association of Fashion, Advertising and Editorial Photographers represents the majority of advertising and magazine photographers in the United Kingdom. The Association was formed to protect the rights and promote the interests of its members, to encourage a high standard of professionalism and ethical behaviour, and to promote the interest, and use of photography by both the industry and general public.
We believe in the need for these Awards in order to create a precise look at the best photography produced by members of one of the most prestigious photographers’ associations in the world. We wish to eliminate our reliance upon the good will of other bodies to acknowledge our work, so that photography may be seen in it’s own terms rather than in relation to design and art direction.
It will, we hope, increase the prestige of the medium, The Association and its individual members while at the same time offering to the public a viewing which would otherwise go unseen.”
We believe this sentiment remains as true and relevant today.
