Exquisitely crafted multi-touch eBook offers award-winning collection of photographs, essays, and videos that celebrate the unique beauty found only in winter.

Ah, winter. It’s not only still upon us, but it’s a historically cold and snowy one. Some of us love it. Many others, truth be told, do not.

Love it or hate it, Art of Winter: A Photographic Essay by Julie M. Covert offers an unparalleled look at winter’s sheer magnificence, validating those who have a special affinity for this powerful season and captivating those who have yet to understand what the attraction is all about.

A carefully designed eBook containing over 160 photographs, a trio of essays, and numerous multi-touch elements that invite readers to further explore the many faces of this ever-changing season, Art of Winter captures both the fierce and fragile beauty of the winter months on Drummond Island in Lake Huron, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Covert notes that surprising plays of light and sculptures of ice were her reward for braving bone-chilling temperatures. Her resulting images captivate the senses and, she hopes, may even create a longing for those frosty mornings when snow crunches underfoot and one’s breath can be seen.

She comments, "Art of Winter has been praised by nationally respected photographers for its artistry. My hope is that, through this book, people will enjoy and appreciate winter in a way they might not have otherwise."

She adds, "A lot of people just don’t realize how beautiful winter can be."

For her efforts, Art of Winter: A Photographic Essay received a bronze medal in the Great Lakes Region, Nonfiction category in the 2013 IPPY (Independent Publisher) Book Awards.

"Handsome in design and remarkable in its detail, Julie M. Covert's Art of Winter pays tribute to a national treasure that is the Great Lakes. Feast your eyes on this very personal collection – from the stormy to the serene, and the marvelous to the strange – these many faces…in the crush of winter will excite your senses. You will want to be there."  ~ Rob Benchley, photographer and co-author of Scallop Season: A Nantucket Chronicle and Keeping the Light
