Retouch Your JPEG Photos without Recompression Loss with BetterJPEG 1.3

BetterJPEG Team announced today the release of version 1.3 (1.3.1.0) of BetterJPEG application, a graphics utility specifically designed to avoid recompression loss when editing and resaving JPEG images.

Unlike most other image editing tools that recompress JPEG images when resaving, introducing more and more JPEG artifacts and degrading the image quality with each iteration, BetterJPEG takes advantage of the fact that JPEG images consist of a number of small independently encoded blocks and does not recompress blocks that didn’t change.

BetterJPEG authors decided to go beyond such traditional lossless JPEG operations as rotation and flip, found in many contemporary image manipulation tools, and extended the number of lossless operations with crop, text insertion, red eye reduction and copy/paste to external
editor.

BetterJPEG Main Features:

- Lossless Transformations - Rotation, Flip
- Lossless Crop (free, fixed aspect, fixed size, predefined and user-defined aspects and sizes), composition guidelines (diagonals, golden mean, rule of thirds)
- Highly Customizable Lossless Date/EXIF Info/Text insertion (shooting date, time, exposure, f-number, focal length, comment, and more, with adjustable position, font, size, color, background, language, format, etc.)
- Advanced Lossless Red Eye Removal (anti-aliasing, adjustable size, sensitivity, darkening)
- Copy/Paste to external editor and back for local retouching without full recompression
- Batch image processing
- Multi-level Undo/Redo
- Metadata preservation
- Compression optimization

“We found it sort of mindless to recompress JPEG photos, sacrificing picture quality, when all we wanted was to insert shooting date, watermark, or remove the red-eye effect,” - said Nikita Avdeyuk, senior BetterJPEG Team manager. “So we decided to come up with a tool
specifically designed for JPEG treatment. Our customers are particularly happy with the ability to batch-imprint EXIF data and comments without full JPEG recompression and to crop photos to specified dimensions for online printing services. Another feature that constantly keeps the topposition in our popularity list is our advanced red-eye removal algorithm.”

The 30-day trial version of BetterJPEG is available on-line at http://www.betterjpeg.com/download.htm and can be registered for 23.95
US Dollars.
