The British Journal of Photography (BJP) has announced its support for the Photo Art Fair, a new five-day event at the Sorting Office, just off Oxford Street in central London. Taking place from 2-6 May 2013, the Photo Art Fair will showcase the work of 200 photographers, most of which will be on sale to the public. The appeal of the fair is the creation of a whole new platform for photography, spanning a range of genres, from Fashion to war.  It is designed to provide visitors with the unique opportunity to purchase affordable and collectable photographs from both undiscovered and also well-known artists. The BJP is the official sponsor of the event, alongside the Positive View Foundation, a charitable organisation that funds projects working with disadvantaged young people.

British Journal of Photography is supporting a new initiative that will put photography centre stage in the capital next spring.

The Photo Art Fair is a new five-day event (2nd–6th May, 2013) at the Sorting Office, just off Oxford Street in central London, showcasing the work of 200 photographers, most of which will be on sale to the public. British Journal of Photography is the official sponsor of the event, alongside the Positive View Foundation, a charitable organisation that funds projects working with disadvantaged young people, whose royal patron is HRH prince William.

The appeal of the fair is the creation of a whole new platform for photography, spanning a range of genres, from Fashion to war.  It is designed to provide visitors with the unique opportunity to purchase affordable and collectable photographs from both undiscovered and also well-known artists.

Simon Bainbridge, editor of British Journal of Photography, and a member of the Fair’s selection committee, comments: “London is home to some of the world’s greatest photographers, and has a thriving photographic culture, yet there’s precious little opportunity to bring people together to discuss and celebrate the medium. Hopefully, the Photo Art Fair will provide that focus.”

Mark Adams, Photo Art Fair’s founder, adds: “Part of our mission is one of discovery: to unearth new art. Our selection panel is tasked with finding new artists and also raising the bar for existing artists by presenting their works in different ways.”

The Photo Art Fair is now calling for entries, welcoming applications from all photographers. Working closely with head curator Susie Babchick, a London-based photography consultant, all applicants will be screened by a selection committee that includes Andy Page, founder and CEO of the Positive View Foundation, Steve Macleod, managing director of Metro Imaging, and photography collectors Gert Elfering and Anke Degenhard, who set up Camera Work Gallery in Berlin.
