BrilliantPhoto Brings Order to Digital Photo Collections; New Full-featured Photo Manager Takes a Fresh Approach to Organizing Large Collections of Digital Photos
MT. PLEASANT, S.C.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dec. 16, 2003—Brilliant Labs today announced the release of BrilliantPhoto, a new software tool for managing, sharing and editing digital photographs. Developed by Jim Lamb, former director of product development for Intuit Inc. and architect for Symantec Corporation’s Consumer Products Division, BrilliantPhoto is a feature-rich product that simplifies importing, organizing, editing, and sharing digital photos.
Lamb designed the software to meet his own needs as a digital photography buff who has taken thousands of digital photos of his two young children. “As we took more and more pictures with the digital camera, it became increasingly difficult to manage our photo collection. I designed BrilliantPhoto to organize my photos automatically, let me add descriptive information quickly, and make it easier to share photos by e-mail.”
Organize and Search Features
BrilliantPhoto features a quick-describe menu that allows the user to assign names, places, keywords, and ratings (one to five stars) to photos with one click per item. Detailed captions can also be added. Using the Information Interchange Model (IIM) for photo metadata developed by the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) and the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC), this descriptive information is embedded in the photo file itself. As a result, the keywords and descriptions remain with the photo when it is e-mailed, archived, or exported.
Intelligent grouping technology automatically organizes the photos in real time, using the descriptive information that the user has assigned. When new keywords are added or descriptions changed, the photos are instantly re-organized.
BrilliantPhoto incorporates a powerful search capability that lets users perform simple or complex searches using any descriptive information that was entered or search for photos using a photo calendar.
Sharing Photos
Photos can be e-mailed directly from BrilliantPhoto, automatically resized and compressed for faster downloading. Web-based albums can be created quickly with standard or customized templates. Through BrilliantPhoto’s integration with Shutterfly, family and friends can view these galleries and order prints online with a few clicks. Users can also export photos to PDAs, burn photo CDs, watch slide shows and print high-quality photos. Users of TiVo’s Home Media Option can publish their entire photo library, organized by date, to their TiVo and can view it on their TV.
Photo Editing
When editing photos, BrilliantPhoto automatically manages each version of the photo and preserves the original while allowing the user to:
—Remove red eye with precision
—Adjust lighting (add flash, reduce backlight)
—Touch up photos to remove blemishes or stains
—Crop photos
—Convert photos to black and white
—Automatically correct color and contrast
—Manually adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, and saturation
Importing Photos
BrilliantPhoto automates the importing of photos directly from the digital camera, card reader or CD. In addition, BrilliantPhoto automatically imports photos from the e-mail inbox of any MAPI-compliant e-mail client, such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, or Netscape. The import procedure provides orientation sensor support for cameras that have this feature, rotating photos automatically.
Pricing and Availability
BrilliantPhoto is shipping now. A full-featured version is available for download at www.brilliantlabs.com. After a 21-day trial, the software may be purchased for $29.00.
