The most advanced video recording + camera app for iOS: Camera Boost 2

UK based developers Interealtime today release Camera Boost 2.0, a major update to their acclaimed and highly popular iPad 2 app. Camera Boost offers extraordinary video processing capable of an unlimited number of effects in realtime, on Apple’s iPad 2. Instead of first taking the photo and then adjusting and filtering it, you apply effects and adjust your pictures while you’re actually taking them. You get to see the final photo before you take it, the finished article right there in the lens.

Cheshire, United Kingdom - iOS developers Interealtime today launched a major update to their acclaimed and highly popular iPad 2 app, Camera Boost. Version 2 contains some very innovative technology that seriously improves an already innovative app.

The original Camera Boost, released in April 2011 was a brand new concept in photography with a new creative process. Instead of first taking the photo and then adjusting and filtering it, you apply effects and adjust your pictures while you’re actually taking them. The effects are shown live in the camera view. You get to see the final photo before you take it, the finished article right there in the lens.

Version 2 takes this concept much further: you can now record video too. In HD, at full speed, with many new effects including noise reduction and HDR. You can apply any number of effects and adjust any image control during recording. For example, it’s now possible to change color balance and lighting contrast during recording, apply color filters or reduce image noise, plus use a range of advanced effects. A whole new world of artistic freedom opens up.

There’s another major advantage over most camera apps. There is no restrictive list of fixed, standard filters - you’re free to turn the various effects on and off and adjust a wide range of image controls at will, effectively giving an unlimited number of variations. There is a preset list with lots of popular styles too, but you’re free to edit this list and create your own new presets.

One of the most useful aspects of the app is image enhancement. The iPad 2’s cameras are not perfect and can produce quite noisy pictures, especially in poor lighting. Camera Boost 2 can help. It includes noise reduction technology designed to reduce the noise level while preserving picture clarity - and of course, this works during recording with live preview. It can also correct white balance and exposure, in addition to supporting tap-to-expose.

Popular “retro” style effects in Camera Boost 2 are powerful and highly adjustable. Color saturation can be reduced to “wash out” the image, lighting can be brightened, contrast turned down to fade the image, and convenient control pads can be used to very simply alter colors to achieve cross-processing effects, aged film, sepia and so on. There’s even a focus control to get those soft lens effects and sharp gritty looks.

Interealtime have spent the last 6 months creating a remarkable new video processing system called “Unlimited FX Engine” (UFX). This is the new technology that powers Camera Boost 2, and is perhaps the most amazing part of the app. This system processes live video, and can apply an unlimited number of effects simultaneously. It does that with HD video, at 30fps, and never slows down - even when recording high quality HD video to disk with a dozen effects applied. That means there’s never a delay when taking a picture or saving a video - no “Please wait” or “Developing…” messages, everything is always instant.
