CAN YOU CAPTURE HOPE?

30th June 2014

FXB International, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to lifting people out of extreme poverty, today launches a global photography competition to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The aim of the competition is to bring FXB International’s mission to eradicate extreme poverty to life, and to give one lucky winner the chance to win a ‘money can’t buy’ prize.

The competition will see one talented amateur photographer win a half-day photography masterclass with world-renowned photographer, Jillian Edelstein and the chance to have their winning image featured alongside Jillian’s as part of an international exhibition launching at London’s prestigious gallery@oxo in August this year.

The exhibition, Framing Hope: Celebrating 25 Years of Poverty Eradication with FXB International, will feature 25 inspiring images shot by Jillian Edelstein, capturing the stories of hope and success of families in Burundi, China, Colombia, India and Rwanda who joined the FXBVillage programme – a pioneering, three-year holistic programme to bring about long-term poverty eradication.

To enter, amateur photographers will need to submit a single photograph that best conveys the theme "Framing Hope". Whether a striking portrait, a beautiful landscape or a single moment in time beautifully captured, we’re asking people to let their creativity flow and submit their defining image of hope.

Jillian Edelstein, photographer, commented: “By its very nature, ‘hope’ is an abstract concept bringing to the surface different visions for each and every one of us. FXB International provides hope for some of the world’s poorest families, helping them escape extreme poverty for the long term. This competition invites people from all over the world to submit what they see as ‘hope’ in a single, evocative image. Having been challenged by FXB myself to ‘Frame Hope’ - to bring to life the faces of the families, women and children whom FXB has supported through the FXBVillage programme - I’m excited to see how other people interpret the brief and inject their individual creativity into a single photograph.”

Albina du Boisrouvray, Founder and Honorary President of FXB International added: “Every day, for 25 years now, we’ve worked tirelessly to eradicate extreme poverty and bring long-term hope to forgotten people around the world. To date, FXB International has touched the lives of more than 17 million people through our various projects including the FXBVillage programme. Jillian’s work in capturing the faces of the FXBVillage programme participants is fantastic, and I’m very proud she’s given a voice, on a global scale, to the people she has photographed. I hope this will inspire many people to participate in our global photography competition.”

All entries will be displayed in an online gallery, with the five most-voted for, shortlisted for judging by an expert panel who will select the overall winner.

The competition will be live and open for entries from 30th June to 25th July midnight BST.
