Canon’s imagePROGRAF iPF9000 and iPF5000 Printers with ErgoSoft RIPs Receive Awards for Poster-Size, Presentation-Size, and Textile Printing

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., November 28, 2006 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, ink-jet technology and digital photography equipment, is proud to announce that the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF9000 60” and imagePROGRAF iPF5000 17” 12-color inkjet printers have both received 2006 DPI Product-of-the-Year awards at the SGIA Digital Trade Show in Las Vegas. In the Output Device category, the Canon iPF9000 large format printer received the Product-of-the-Year Award for “Poster Size” output and another for “Textile Printing”, while the iPF5000 received the award for “Presentation Size” output device.

Each year, DPI (Digital Printing & Imaging Association) holds the DPI Product-of-the-Year competition in conjunction with the annual SGIA Trade Show, to honor digital imaging products that have impacted the industry in the past year.  The selected digital imaging products are helping the industry by providing fast, accurate and reliable output for wide format digital graphic businesses to help printers succeed in the marketplace.

Entries for the “Output Device Category” are required to submit test prints of an image created by the Association and printed on the nominated device. The image is designed to make output devices run through their paces by printing a number of challenging images and test patterns. Output devices are judged on criteria such as color, detail and tonality.

“We are very proud to see our imagePROGRAF printers win these awards, they stand as an example of Canon’s commitment and dedication to provide superior solutions to the large format printer market,” says Tod Pike, senior vice president, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Working with reliable, industry-leading partners such as ErgoSoft has certainly helped to establish Canon’s imagePROGRAF line of printers as leaders in the marketplace.”

In addition to the award given to the winning output device in each category, ErgoSoft served as a contributing partner supplying the RIP software and media product used to create the winning print.  In each case where Canon won an award, an ErgoSoft RIP was used to produce the award winning print.  ErgoSoft was the contributing partner with their PosterPrint RIP and TexPrint RIP as well as the company’s ColorGPS ICC Color Profile System.
