Canon PIXMA iP90Canon UK Press Release

Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, is pleased to announce the launch of the ultra-stylish, compact Inkjet Printer, the PIXMA iP90 mobile photo and document printer. With capability to print a 4” x 6” borderless photo print in just 51 seconds and 16 ppm A4 mono printing, the 4800 x 1200 dpi , 2 picolitre droplet size iP90 is designed to offer the best available high performance mobile solution for photo and document printing for the demanding creative user.

The printer features optional Bluetooth and IrDA support for wireless photo/document printing from compatible mobile phones, PDAs and PCs. An optional battery pack/charger and car charger are available for ultimate mobility. A PictBridge port allows direct connection and photo printing with any compliant digital camera or digital video camera, without the need for a PC.

Print performance is complemented with the sleek designer styling that has become synonymous with the PIXMA, sub-brand. At just 52mm thick, weighing only 1.8 kg and with a surface area less than the A4 sheets it can print, the iP90 is considerably smaller than competing models.
Canon’s patented FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology produces industry-leading photo quality printing rivalling that of high street photo labs, with print speeds comparable to many desktop printers.

“By combining desktop photo printing power with true portability, the iP90 confirms Canon’s position of leadership in mobile printing,” said Malcolm Hills Head of Canon Consumer Imaging in the UK and Ireland. “Its stylish design and fast, photolab quality print capacity is expected to find favour in a market that has an increasingly discerning sense of aesthetic.”

True portability
The tiny Bluetooth adaptor BU-10 integrates seamlessly into the front of the unit. An optional slimline LK-51B Rechargeable Battery and Charger Kit allows printing of up to 450 pages from a single charge. The battery and charger pack connect to the printer via locking screws, forming a sleek, integrated unit. An optional battery and cradle CK-51B is available to hold the printer in a vertical orientation, saving space and simplifying powering and charging when storing the printer. An optional PU-100U car adapter completes the suite of portability accessories.
In the event of black ink running out a new feature allows printing to continue, using the colour inks to make composite black.

Remarkable quality
The iP90’s print quality exceeds that of many desktop printers. It stems from Canon’s patented FINE semi-conductor manufacturing technique, employed to create a print head with exceptionally high nozzle density and small nozzle diameters. 2 picolitre droplets eject from microscopic nozzles at high speed and with exacting precision at a resolution up to 4800 x 1200 dpi, producing grain-free, borderless photo prints with a superb clarity, contrast, colour range and smoothness of tone.

Built for speed
The iP90 is capable of 16 ppm mono and 12 ppm colour print speeds, and can produce a 4 x 6” photo print in less than a minute. Canon’s speed advantage stems from a capacity to use superior nozzle density to get a greater volume of ink transferred to the page in less time. The iP90 uses separate pigment based black ink for fast, crisp mono printing. An economy ink mode provides a 50% increase in mono page yield.

Photo Friendliness
A PictBridge port allows direct connection and printing without a PC, with any compatible digital camera or digital video camera. Photo printing from mobile camera phones is quick and easy via IrDA or optional Bluetooth connection.

Matching Media
Canon’s competitive advantage in printer hardware technology is fully realised when genuine Canon photo grade media and inks are used. The diverse and growing range of Canon media is developed specifically to work in combination with Canon’s FINE inkjet print technology. When used with Canon Photo Paper Pro (PR-101) media, the iP90 will produce prints which last 100 years when stored in a photo album.
Photo papers and media are available in a wide range of sizes, formats and finishes. They include double-sided high-gloss photo paper (PP-101D 5x7 and PP-101D A4), album kits including double sided photo paper and album cover (PAK-101 5x7 and PAK-101 A4), credit card sized glossy photo paper (GP-401), mini-stickers (PS-101) and the flagship Photo Paper Pro (PR-101) for the highest grade, 100 year performance professional results.

Software
The following software comes with the PIXMA iP90 to help users get the most from their printer:
Easy-PhotoPrint – provides three easy steps to printing photos. Assisting with options such as media selection and scaling, it includes features such as Face Sharpening for out-of-focus face correction, Red Eye Correction and Digital Face Smoothing to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Easy-WebPrint – sits on the Explorer toolbar and takes the frustration out of web page printing, saving time, ink and paper by correctly scaling output to print one-page-per-sheet, preventing the common problem of having the right-hand side of web pages cut off.
PhotoRecord – allows easy creation of personalised photo albums, including assistance with printing on Canon’s new double-sided media and image auto scaling to fit different paper sizes.

The iP90 is compatible with Win98/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS X v10.2.1 or later.

The PIXMA iP90 will be available from March 2005 for £199 inc VAT/ €287.32 inc VAT.
