CanonCanon UK Press Release

Canon has been named most trusted brand for cameras for the sixth consecutive year in the Reader’s Digest European Trusted Brands Survey 2006, one of the broadest pan-European surveys of consumer attitudes towards brands. Reader’s Digest, the world’s best-selling monthly magazine, asked over 25,000 of its readers in 14 European countries to nominate the brand they trusted most in a range of consumer categories, including cameras. Over 317,000 votes were cast across the product categories with over 112,000 different brands nominated. Canon was one of only five brands that were nominated as ‘most trusted’ in 10 or more countries. In addition, in every country respondents gave Canon a higher than average score for quality, a factor that is significant as the most important criteria for trust across the 14 countries was ‘high quality’.

ames Leipnik, Chief of Communication and Corporate Relations for Canon Europe said: “At Canon our goal is to empower and enrich the lives of our customers both at work and at home, by providing imaging technology products of the highest possible quality. Because of this, we are particularly delighted to have again scored so well in the Trusted Brands survey as these results confirm our strategy is working and customers all across Europe have great confidence in our brand.”

Gavin Murray, Strategy Director International Advertising for Reader’s Digest in Europe added: “The Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands survey has been running for six years and Canon has consistently ranked very highly from the outset. This shows that Canon has mastered the challenge of communicating its brand across such a culturally diverse region.”

The countries in which Canon was nominated as most trusted brand in 2006 were Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and the UK. Brands leading other categories included globally recognised names like Nokia (mobile phones), Nivea (skincare) and Visa (credit cards).

In further recognition of the power of the Canon brand, in 2005 Canon was named in the top 10 in the Interbrand Annual Survey of the World’s Most Valuable Brands.
