Canon boosts performance in home PIXMA multifunctionals
Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 22 August 2005: Canon, a leader in photographic and imaging technology, today announces the launch of two photolab multifunctionals, the PIXMA MP150 and PIXMA MP170. Replacing the popular PIXMA MP110 and PIXMA MP130, these models offer designer styling, high-speed and superb quality photo printing, plus scanning and colour copying in a single compact unit.
With 2 picolitre droplet 4800 x 1200 dpi performance from FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print heads, both models produce photolab quality prints direct from PictBridge compatible digital still and digital video cameras. With its built in card slot, the MP170 also offers direct photo printing from all popular memory cards.
These 3-In-One ‘Scan-Copy-Print’ multifunctionals also feature:
- fast 10 x 15cm photolab quality borderless photo prints in approx. 55 seconds
- long life fade-resistant photo prints with Canon’s ChromaLife100 system
- fast copying: 22cpm mono and 17cpm colour
- full colour 1200 x 2400 dpi high resolution flatbed scanner
“These PIXMA multifunctionals represent the convergence of many of Canon’s core technology competencies,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “They offer remarkable speed, quality, functionality and performance for this price point,”
A FINE personal photolab
Canon’s patented FINE semi-conductor manufacturing technique has been used to create print heads with exceptionally high nozzle density and 10mm Micro-Nozzle diameters, delivering ink droplets with unrivalled speed, reliability, consistency and accuracy. With increases to the number of Micro Nozzles and print head lengths, the multifunctionals now deliver millions of 2 picolitre1 ink droplets each second to produce a 10 x 15cm photo print in approx. 55 seconds – 36% faster than the models they replace. Both can print borderless photos up to A4 size. Virtually grain free, the print quality is comparable to that of traditional silver halide prints. FINE also delivers super fast, high quality document printing.
Stand-alone photo printing
Photo Index Sheets – (automatically generated tick-the-box memory card summary pages) simplify photo and media selection when printing straight from memory card. Images can also be enhanced without resorting to the PC: face brightener enhances images by compensating for backlight conditions and red eye correction automatically detects and corrects red eyes caused by flash reflection.
Quality that lasts
For improved fade resistance, the printers support Canon’s new ChromaLife100: a system of genuine Canon dye-based inks, which deliver exceptionally broad colour gamut, and specialised photo paper designed to work together with FINE print heads. This technology ‘triangle’ of nozzle design, ink and media produces prints that rival silver halide quality and longevity. Prints resist fading for 100 years when album-stored, 30 years when displayed under glass and 10 years when exposed to the effects of the air .
Fast, borderless copying
The increase in Micro-Nozzle numbers responsible for the high print speeds also translates directly to fast 22cpm mono and 17cpm colour copy speeds. Both multifunctionals include fit-to-page copying, while the MP170 also offers AE (Automatic Exposure) copying – documents are pre-scanned to identify and optimise results for various text, photo and background zones appearing on each page of the original.
Borderless copies and prints are possible in A4, 13 x 18cm, 10 x 15cm and credit card size formats.
Powerful scanning
Canon’s own scanner technology features in both models, providing high quality scans at 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution. An advanced Z-lid improves scan and copy quality of thick books and magazines by applying even pressure across the entire document.
For optimum results, multiple areas in a single file can be selected and scanned with different settings. A range of image correction features are included in each device, including fading correction, reduction of dust and scratches, grain correction, unsharp mask and descreen, which reduces moiré effect.
Multi Scan saves time by scanning up to 10 photos in a single pass and saving them as separate files, automatically deskewing to correct tilted images. Also aiding workflow is the scanning direct to PDF (Portable Document Format) option, which creates PDFs from originals without the use of conversion software. Pages are easily ordered and can be readily added to PDF files previously created with MP Navigator. Featuring automatic OCR (Optical Character Recognition), text is embedded into the PDF file for convenient searching.
Software
Both multifunctionals come with a comprehensive software suite:
- MP Navigator 2.0 – helps users get immediate optimum results with minimum fuss. Users simply select the required process and desired output. Version 2.0 features: improved PDF functionality; improved zoom window for scanned images; additional buttons and controls for greater usability; and options to scan from colour magazines or film.
- Easy-PhotoPrint – provides three easy steps to printing photos, assisting with media selection, scaling and photo effects.
- Easy-WebPrint (Windows only) – sits on the Internet Explorer toolbar to simplify web page printing.
- ScanSoft OmniPage SE – a powerful Optical Character Recognition application that scans text for conversion into recognisable text characters/data for editing. Saves time and increases productivity by quickly turning PDF files and stacks of paper into word processing and spreadsheet documents.
- Arcsoft PhotoStudio – an image-editing program featuring automatic colour and tone enhancement, cloning, animated 3D text and over 40 special effects.
The multifunctionals are compatible with Windows 98/Me/2000/XP, and Mac OSX v10.2.4 or later.
