Canon Receives Two Best Camera TIPA Awards
Canon UK Press Release
Canon has received two Best Camera awards this year from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). The EOS 5D received the Best D-SLR Professional accolade, while the Digital IXUS 65 was pronounced Best Ultra Compact Digital Camera. Coinciding with the announcement that Canon holds the number one position in the Western European digital camera market for the fourth consecutive year , the TIPA awards highlight Canon’s leadership in the field of photographic technology.
“We are delighted to receive this recognition from the TIPA members,” remarked Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “Photography is at the core of our business, and we strive to always push the boundaries of imaging technology. The breakthrough EOS 5D and innovative Digital IXUS 65 are fine examples of this ethos.”
Best D-SLR Professional – the EOS 5D
The EOS 5D’s combination of a full frame CMOS sensor and a lightweight, compact body created an entirely new D-SLR category when launched in 2005. “It is the first digital camera that offers a full-frame, 24 x 36mm sensor at a realistic price, and there’s no compromise on image quality,” commented the TIPA judges. “With 12.8 million pixels available, there’s plenty of resolution for huge prints, and they’re big pixels, too, which means lower noise and higher quality in the final image.” The full frame sensor in the EOS 5D means that when photographers use their EF lenses with the camera, the actual focal lengths of the lenses are realised. “With no ‘crop factor’ to swing the results, this gives the angle of-view and the large viewfinder image that 35mm film photographers know and love,” the judges added.
Best Ultra Compact Digital Camera: Digital IXUS 65
In the highly competitive compact digital camera sector, the Digital IXUS 65 stood out with its compelling design and impressive specifications. “Featuring a high resolution 3 inch LCD screen, the steel-bodied Digital IXUS 65 draws on the original IXUS design concept to achieve a classically elegant styling,” noted TIPA’s judges. They also praised the camera’s unique Touch Control Dial, Image Inspection Tool and ISO 800 capability.
