CANON ENHANCES ITS LOW-PRICED 35MM FILM AND PHOTO SCANNER

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 27, 2003 - Canon’s new CanoScan 3200F Color Image Scanner allows consumers to scan 35mm slides or negatives as well as photos and documents quickly with a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface*. Both Windows and Macintosh computer users will enjoy the simple scanner operation as they create photo albums, scan text for OCR applications, scan photos for e-mail or copy and scan receipts for archiving.

The CanoScan 3200F scanner is one of the world’s fastest film capable flatbed scanners flying through a 600 dpi color scan of a letter size document in approximately 15 seconds. With a maximum optical resolution of 1200 x 2400 dpi and an enhanced resolution of 9600 dpi, the CanoScan 3200F scanner brings high-quality to a variety of applications. A built-in 35mm film adapter allows users to scan single frame slides or negatives to enlarge precious photographs. Book and magazine scanning is made easy with Canon’s exclusive Z-Lid? Expansion Top. The Z-Lid Expansion Top automatically lifts vertically and lays flat on the item being scanned.

A sleek design with a high gloss finish adds beauty to the desktop while maintaining an excellent level of usability. Four easy buttons automate common scanning tasks such as copying, scanning, filing or e-mailing of images or documents. Quality is maintained by incorporating a 48-bit color processor that is capable of generating more than 281 trillion possible colors.

The CanoScan 3200F Color Image Scanner features Canon’s dust and scratch reduction for paper and printed photos and Grain correction and Fading correction for film. This technology can automatically remove much of the dirt and scratches from scans of paper and printed photos and the Fading correction feature examines originals with faded color and intelligently rebuilds color quality.

Canon helps manage scanning tasks by including several software titles** on the setup CD-Rom. ScanGear? CS (Windows/Mac), CanoScan Toolbox (Windows/Mac), ArcSoft? PhotoStudio?, ScanSoft? OmniPage? SE OCR (Windows/Mac), Ulead? DVD PictureShow? SE Basic (Windows) and Adobe? Photoshop? Album? Starter Edition (Windows) all come standard with the scanner.

The CanoScan 3200F scanner will be compatible with Windows operating systems running XP, 2000, ME or 98 and Macintosh operating systems running Mac OS 9 (9.1 to 9.2) and Mac OS X (10.1.3 to 10.2.x). A one-year limited warranty with InstantExchange? is included with an option to purchase an extended limited warranty (good for up to three years) from Canon for a suggested retail price of $50.00. The CanoScan 3200F scanner will have an MSRP of $129.99 and will be available beginning October 2003.
