CanoScan LiDE 60 and CanoScan LiDE 25 flatbed scanners are announced today. The new CanoScan LiDE 60 and CanoScan LiDE 25 scanners are aimed at the entry level market, both offering 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution and 48 bit colour depth. The LiDE 60 and LiDE 25 will be available from July 2005 for £59.00 RRP / €85.18 and £49.00 RRP / €70.75 RRP respectively.

Canon’s latest entry level LiDE scanners CanoScan LiDE 60 and LiDE 25: now with enhanced scan-to-PDF

Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, is pleased to announce the launch of the CanoScan LiDE 60 and the CanoScan LiDE 25. At just 40 and 34 mm thick respectively, the sleek and stylish new LiDE 60 and LiDE 25 offer scanning direct into PDF files, as well as one touch scan, copy and email. They also feature high quality 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution from Canon’s own innovative LiDE (LED Indirect Exposure) sensor technology. Drawing all their power from a single USB cable (a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection for the LiDE 60), the highly portable and compact scanners come with a comprehensive range of software and an advanced Z-lid for scanning of bulky and cumbersome items. The LiDE 60 also features a clip-on stand, which is designed to save valuable desk space, and has a stylish silver lid.

Scan to PDF
Both the LiDE 60 and LiDE 25 speed up workflows by enabling scanning direct to PDF. Users are able to create PDFs from original documents without having to use conversion software. Pages are easily ordered and can be readily inserted into PDF files previously created with the scanner. Using automatic OCR (Optical Character Recognition), text is embedded into the PDF file for convenient editing and searching.

Higher resolution
Accurate colour reproduction and a high level of photographic detail are achieved with 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution and 48 bit colour depth. Whether scanning a meticulous diagram or a highly detailed photograph, excellent results are guaranteed thanks to Canon’s optical expertise.

EZ Functionality
The LiDE 60 and LiDE 25 scanners are designed to be extremely simple to use. The range of EZ buttons on the front of the scanners mean that the scan, copy, and email actions are a one-touch operation. The LiDE 60 has four EZ buttons, also offering one-touch PDF creation. The EZ buttons can be customised via Canon Toolbox software, allowing the user to configure each button to their most frequently performed tasks. The convenient Z-lid on each of the scanners ensures that the user is able to scan thick documents, large books, and other irregularly sized items by ensuring that even pressure is placed on the object. With the integrated design of the lid, the scanner unit retains its compact size and stylish design.

Multi-Photo mode saves time by creating individual files from a single scan of multiple photos. Moreover, originals can be spread out on the glass with minimal regard for alignment or arrangement, since Multi-Photo automatically identifies, crops and de-skews individual images. Advanced optics and scanning to PDF make the LiDE 60 and LiDE 25 excellent for both photographic and text based work.

The LiDE 60 also allows the user to more accurately produce prints of scanned photographs with Easy Colour Matching Print. This single click feature automatically matches the Canon printer colour profile to the LiDE 60 for more accurate colour output. Additionally, by utilising wide colour space for this process, more lifelike images are produced with truer, higher quality results.

Quality software
For increased functionality and additional value, the LiDE 60 and LiDE 25 are bundled with high quality OCR and imaging software: Caere OmniPage SE and ArcSoft PhotoStudio. The ScanGear driver features QARE (Quality Automatic Retouching and Enhancement) Level 3, an intelligent image correction and enhancement feature which automatically restores damaged and faded photos to their original brilliance. QARE Level 3 removes dust and scratches, resaturates colour and reduces film grain effect with a few simple clicks. With its intuitive interface, the software is easy to use and saves hours of manual retouching. 

For the first time, ScanGear can be used as a stand-alone driver. This means that users can start scanning and saving images without first having to start a TWAIN-compliant application.

The LiDE 60
Whilst both models are stylish, slim and functional, the LiDE 60 additionally offers the user a very fast scan rate through its USB 2.0 Hi Speed connection – previews are available in just 9 seconds. The unit also comes with a vertical click-on stand, which saves on storage space. With an extra EZ button, the LiDE 60 is also capable of one touch scan to PDF. The LiDE 60 also features a stylish silver lid.
