Birmingham set to Capture Attention of the Photography World in 2016

The team behind The Photography Show has today announced regional event, Capture Birmingham, launched with support from Visit Birmingham, set to take place 19-20 March 2016. Capture Birmingham will see photography and arts organisations from across the city invite the public to celebrate the world of photography through a series of exhibitions, photo walks and workshops.
With the aim of positioning Birmingham as a UK destination for photography, Capture Birmingham will welcome anyone and everyone interested in photography, from seasoned professionals to those who simply like looking at and appreciating inspiring images. The event will incorporate all aspects of photography and any organisations or individuals hosting a related event in or around Birmingham at that time can submit event details via www.capturebirmingham.org to become a part of the weekend’s activities.

Already confirmed on the schedule as an official event location is the Ikon Gallery, hosting an exhibition from ex-Birmingham University student Janet Mendelsohn and photo walks led by Hidden Spaces, which offer people the chance to take unique shots and discover Birmingham’s lesser known architecture and history.

In addition, the Forward Photography Festival, hosted by Instagramers of Birmingham and Visit Birmingham, will host a series of InstaMeets, each with a different focus and location to test photography skills. Professional photographers including Tim Cornbill will be on hand to provide tips, tricks and tutorials throughout the two days.

Emma Gray, Director of Marketing and Communications at Visit Birmingham, said:

“From the new Grand Central complex and redeveloped Mailbox to distinctive buildings such as Selfridges and The Cube, Birmingham is home to a continually changing landscape, making it a perfect backdrop for photographers. We are proud to be supporting Capture Birmingham 2016 and look forward to showcasing the city to many visitors during a weekend dedicated to photography.”

A visit to Capture Birmingham can be rounded up with a trip to The Photography Show; the ultimate event to inspire creativity through imagery, held at NEC Birmingham.

The full programme for Capture Birmingham will be released over the coming months. Ideas for events can be submitted at www.capturebirmingham.org/contact/get-involved and further information is available at www.capturebirmingham.org
