Phase One have released a Beta version of its Capture One 4 RAW workflow software. New features in Capture One 4 include High Dynamic Range, Variants, Web contact sheet and Multiple up viewing. The first look at Capture One 4 is available now at no cost until November 1st.

COPENHAGEN – August 30, 2007 – Phase One today announced the beta release of Capture One 4 – the next generation of Capture One 3 LE—RAW workflow software that helps professional photographers to achieve superior image quality.
Capture One 4 is a new application building on cutting-edge technology, a new architecture, and what users found best from previous generations of Capture One.
The first look at the newly architected software is available now at no cost until November 1. All existing customers can benefit from Capture One 4 – both the beta version and the final version will be available to LE and PRO customers free of charge.
Capture One 4 is available for Windows XP (SP2) and Vista and Mac OS 10.4.8 (or higher) platforms. Please consult the beta release notes for information on known limitations and how to provide beta feedback.

A. Capture One 4 is the next generation of Capture One 3.x LE. It is designed to offer more features packed in a more simplified user interface, with more powerful image quality, workflow enhancements and faster response times. These new attributes are the result of a software development process designed to permit the application to keep pace with the rapid advancements occurring throughout the digital photography industry.
Q. What is Capture One 4 Beta?
A. Capture One 4 is currently under development. This beta version offers a glimpse of what’s to come. It is available at no cost until November 1. 2007.
Q. Who is the target audience for Capture One 4 Beta?
A. Capture One 4 beta release is intended for users in non-production environments who are interested in exploring Capture One 4 performance ahead of its general availability release. Capture One 4 customers will be professional photographers and prosumers who demand the highest available image quality through cutting edge RAW workflow solution.
Q. When will the final release of Capture One 4 be available for purchase?
A. Phase One will release Capture One 4 after it completes a rigorous beta testing period and successfully achieves the robustness and quality that its customers expect.
Q. What is the price of Capture One 4? Capture One 4 beta?
A. The price for Capture One 4 will be USD/EUR 99.-. The beta version is available on a free trial basis until November 1, 2007.
Q. What will be the upgrade options for Capture One 4?
A. Current Capture One LE customers can claim an upgrade to Capture One 4 free of charge. We’ll give you more information on how to activate the software when Capture One 4 is released. As a special service we are also offering Capture One PRO customers a free upgrade to Capture One 4.
Q. When will the next generation of Capture One PRO be available?
A. Next generation of Capture One PRO is in development. We will provide more information further in the process.

Q. What are the improvements from Capture One LE to Capture One 4?
A. Capture One 4 is a new application, building upon cutting edge technology, a new architecture, and what the users found best from previous generations of Capture One. Capture One 4 keeps its predecessors’ great toolkits, but improves upon existing features and offers new ones, such as:
- High Dynamic Range
o Easy recovery of details in highlights and shadows in images with a large dynamic range
- Variants
o Experiment with different looks from one RAW image with virtually no disk and performance overhead
- Web contact sheet
o Set up theme-based web contact sheets to share work with clients
- Multiple up viewing
o View up to 12 images in full resolution simultaneously in the new Viewer
Q. How do I contact support?
A. There is no technical support available for the beta version of Capture One 4.
Q. What will be the difference between this version and the PRO version?
A. The scope for the PRO version of the next generation Capture One is not fully committed yet. Below is a non-exhaustive list with some areas that we intend to differentiate the PRO version on:

Q. What will be the price of the PRO version?
A. There are no current plans to change the price of the PRO version
Q. Will there be an upgrade program from this version to the PRO version?
A. There will be an upgrade program, customers can follow to upgrade from Capture One 4 to Capture One PRO. More information will follow with the release of Capture One 4.
Q. How often will new cameras be added?
A. We will continuously update the software to support new cameras.
Q Will Capture One 4 continue to be sold in retail?
A. Yes, Capture One 4 will continue to be sold through Phase One’s E-shop as well as through partner retail networks.
Q. What about existing Capture One customers?
A. Upgrade to Capture One 4 is available to all existing Capture One customers, at no extra cost. To LE customers as entitlement and to PRO customers as a special service upgrade.
