Datacolor Releases SpyderCube Demo Video

Datacolor has released a step-by-step guide to using its SpyderCube calibration device. The SpyderCube helps photographers obtain accurate white balance as well as exposure readings and apply these to a series of shots. The white face of the device helps define highlights; the grey face serves as a grey point target as well as a mid-tone reference point; the black face defines shadows in relations to the Black Trap; and the Black Trap defines absolute black. Photographers simply need to take one reference shot with the SpyderCube, adjust the settings in the SpyderCube software and save them as a preset, which can then be applied to an entire series of raw files. The video below guides you through these steps.

About SpyderCube
Datacolor’s SpyderCube calibration device eliminates any need for traditional 18% grey cards and provides a compact, precise colour reference tool that presents accurate colours in RAW processing.
The SpyderCube accelerates RAW processing by providing references to set the white balance, exposure, black level and brightness at the beginning of a shoot. Photographers simply need to take one reference shot with the SpyderCube in the determined light environment, adjust the settings in the user-friendly SpyderCube software and save as a preset, which can then be applied to an entire series of shots.
Compact and portable, the SpyderCube will fit into any photographer’s camera bag and is also tripod mountable. For a complete colour calibration solution the SpyderCube can also be attached to the top of the recently launched SpyderCheckr - a colour calibration device in the form of a colour pallet containing 48 scientifically engineered colour patches. These include a range of natural skin tones that are perfect for portrait or fashion photography.
Pricing and availability
Datacolor’s SpyderCube is available at electronic and photo speciality retailers with a suggested price of £42 (Inc VAT).
