An unusual view of the Mediterranean Biome has won Devon-based photographer Flick Cowley a Costa Rican getaway for two as part of the Eden Project’s Twitter and Instagram photo competition. His image “Bench of Biomimicry” was awarded top prize among more than 13,000 entries. The competition ran from May 2016 to September 2016 and entrants were asked to either Instagram or tweet as many photos as they liked and the only rule: it must feature Eden. It could be a picture with family or a simple plant, as long as it was capturing an Eden moment. “I feel proud and overjoyed that my photo was selected among so many other fantastic images," Flick said. “I love photography and everybody knows me for always having a camera in my hand. I’m inspired by what I see and I wanted to put an image together which represents what the Eden Project means to all those who visit.”

Flick’s benchmark Biome pic snaps up tropical holiday for two

An unusual view of the Mediterranean Biome has won photographer Flick Cowley a Costa Rican getaway for two as part of the Eden Project’s Twitter and Instagram photo competition.

Eden gave visitors a chance to show off their creativity for the chance to win a nine-day trip around remote islands of the Caribbean coast, courtesy of Tribes Tailormade Travel.

Flick’s image “Bench of Biomimicry” was awarded top prize among more than 13,000 entries.

Photographer Stuart Thomas was highly commended for his image of two baby roul rouls – otherwise known as crested partridges - in a standoff against each other in the Rainforest Biome.

Flick, who lives in Ilfracombe in Devon, said: “I feel proud and overjoyed that my photo was selected among so many other fantastic images.

“I love photography and everybody knows me for always having a camera in my hand. I’m inspired by what I see and I wanted to put an image together which represents what the Eden Project means to all those who visit.”

Flick added: “I am very excited to have the opportunity to visit Costa Rica and its beautiful scenery as I am a born traveller with a desire to see the beautiful world we live in.”

Rita Broe, Eden's marketing director, said: "We were overwhelmed by the quality of entries to our photo competition and we'd like to thank everyone who entered.

“It wasn't easy narrowing the list down to two outstanding pictures but our judges felt Flick's picture showed us a striking and unique view of Eden and therefore was a deserved winner. We hope she enjoys her trip to Costa Rica! We are also very pleased to commend Stuart's charming picture of roul roul chicks in our Rainforest Biome."

Previous winning photographs include a white tree frog poking out of a pitcher plant and a “super baby” in the Rainforest Biome.
