Stock photography agency Dreamstime has launched a “Camera” section that collects together and enables detailed searching of all of the company’s images where the camera/equipment details were available in the exchangeable image file format (EXIF) metadata. More than eighty percent of Dreamstime’s collected images retain EXIF information, with more than 2,000 different camera models catalogued. This new camera section offers value to photographers who can now see the different camera models that are most frequently used in stock photography and spot trends between certain cameras and types of subject matter. They can also review and compare the images produced by cameras that are at certain price point levels or possess particular technological features, aiding them with purchasing decisions, the company says.

Dreamstime Launches Industry’s First Cameras Section Providing Users a Searchable EXIF Database to Find Pictures Based on Camera Model

Ideal for Photographers or Designers Who Need Detailed Information about Cameras in Order To Make Informed Creative Decisions

NASHVILLE, TN — Dreamstime, a leader in stock photography, announced today the launch of an industry-first “Camera” section that collects together and enables detailed searching of all of the company’s images where the camera/equipment details were available in the exchangeable image file format (EXIF) metadata.

EXIF is extended metadata written in a digital image file that contains information regarding time and date when the image was taken, aperture number, exposure time, ISO, lens and camera used, GPS data (depends on camera model), processing adjustments (saturation, exposure of other settings changed), copyright information regarding the image author or camera owner and other information. More than eighty percent of Dreamstime’s collected images retain EXIF information, with more than 2,000 different camera models catalogued. This new camera section offers value to photographers who can now see the different camera models that are most frequently used in stock photography and spot trends between certain cameras and types of subject matter. They can also review and compare the images produced by cameras that are at certain price point levels or possess particular technological features, aiding them with purchasing decisions.

Interested Dreamstime partners including camera stores, review sites, and photographer’s communities can access the Camera section data through the Dreamstime API. The easy-to-install API allows any website to seamlessly present the entire Dreamstime library to its visitors.

Dreamstime offers a searchable tool for its creative audience that allows them to find images based on specific brand, model, or even the type of lens. The new service features a wide breadth of information, for example it lists several million photos taken with more than 125 different Nikon camera models.

“Professional photographers are always reviewing the work of their peers in order to learn more about their craft, and this available camera data allows them to see the correlation between the camera used and the image’s unique qualities” said Serban Enache , CEO and Co-Founder of Dreamstime. “It’s also important for designers as they get more insights into how certain cameras produce a distinct look and feel, and then actively search for photos by camera type to find the perfect image for their creative.”
