Canon has been awarded European Professional Camera 2006-2007 for the EOS 5D and European Photo Printer 2006-2007 for the PIXMA iP6600D by the prestigious European Imaging & Sound Association (EISA). The camera award is the second major honour for the EOS 5D, coming on the back of a Best D-SLR Professional in Europe 2006 award in April from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). “The breakthrough EOS 5D and advanced direct printing PIXMA iP6600D represent the ultimate consumer imaging devices, from image capture to printing,” remarked Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “Photography is at the core of our business, and we strive to always push the boundaries of imaging technology. We are delighted to receive this recognition from the EISA members.”

EOS 5D – European Professional Camera of the Year 2006-2007
The EOS 5D’s combination of a full frame CMOS sensor and a lightweight, compact body created an entirely new D-SLR category when launched in 2005. “The EOS 5D is the first full-frame sensor digital SLR available for an affordable price. Its effective 12.8 million-pixels, in conjunction with the full-frame sensor, allows the user to make quite large digital prints without compromising image quality,” commented the EISA judges. “Furthermore, users can take advantage of a bright viewfinder and shallow depth of field. It is an excellent camera for both professionals and semi professionals.”

Also launched in 2005, the highly specified, six-ink PIXMA iP6600D strengthened Canon’s line-up in the rapidly growing home photo printing market. “The PIXMA iP6600D is a high-speed photo printer with excellent quality for a good price. The ink droplets are 1 picolitre small, allowing good printing accuracy and a high resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi,” EISA’s judges remarked. “This makes [it] a good choice for both enthusiasts and semi-professional photographers.” The judges also praised the printer’s extra features, such as second paperfeed and CD-R printing capabilities, as well as the direct printing functionality, possible from the camera or memory cards.

EISA Awards
The EISA Awards are chosen annually by panels representing nearly 50 prominent Photo, Video, Audio, Home Theatre and Mobile Electronics magazines from over 18 European countries. Every year, the EISA Awards recognise new products that combine the most advanced technology, the most desirable features, the ultimate expression of design, the most satisfying ergonomics and the greatest value for money. Canon will be presented with their awards at this year’s IFA fair in Berlin, Germany.
