EIZO Introduces DisplayPort Equipped ColorEdge® CG243W for High-End Still and Moving Image Work

Cypress, CA, September 24, 2009 – Eizo Nanao Technologies Inc. today announced the ColorEdge CG243W color calibration LCD monitor for pre-press, digital photography, video-editing, and post-production.

Designed to handle both still and moving images equally well, this 24.1-inch widescreen monitor features an IPS (in-plane switching) LCD panel with a native resolution of 1920 × 1200 (16:10 aspect ratio) and a gray-to-gray response time of 5 ms. The monitor boasts wide 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles, enabling users to view images from any position.

DisplayPort and dual digital/analog DVI-I inputs are included for connection to three PCs. With a DisplayPort connection, the ColorEdge CG243W accepts 10-bit PC video signals and can display 1.07 billion colors from a pallet of 68 billion.1 This is 64 times more than the typical 16.7 million colors shown using 8-bit display with the monitor’s DVI-I input.

The ColorEdge CG243W’s LCD panel has a maximum brightness of 270 cd/m² and contrast ratio of 850:1. Its wide gamut reproduces 98% of the Adobe RGB color space often used in printing and digital photography. It also reproduces 100% of the color spaces used in broadcasting such as PAL/SECAM, SMPTE-C, and HDTV.

The ColorEdge CG243W offers hardware calibration, so the monitor itself is calibrated rather than the computer’s graphics card, as is the case with software calibration. This ensures no color tones are lost in the calibration process and results in more accurate on-screen color. EIZO’s ColorNavigator calibration software2 is used for setting the target values for brightness, white point, and gamma. ColorNavigator works with a measurement device3 to use the monitor’s 12-bit look-up table for accurate calibration in under five minutes.

EIZO’s Digital Uniformity Equalizer (DUE) function counteracts brightness and chroma uniformity errors that are characteristic of LCD panels. This ensures the ColorEdge CG243W has screen uniformity with a Delta E difference of 3 or less.

16-bit internal processing produces smooth display of grayscale tones. This brings out a high level of detail in dark areas of an image, which are typically problematic for LCD monitors to display.

Seven preset color modes including sRGB, Rec709, EBU, SMPTE-C, DCI are provided. To correct color drift that occurs over time with any LCD monitor, the bundled ColorNavigator software offers a reset function for returning the preset modes to their factory settings.

The ColorEdge CG243W debuts a temperature sensor to suppress chromaticity and brightness fluctuation. This feature, along with patented EIZO technology that stabilizes the monitor’s brightness level, ensures proper display of colors even as surrounding temperature changes, after the monitor starts up, or when coming out of power saving mode.

An EIZO-developed 3D-look up table improves the panel’s additive color mixture (combination of red, green, and blue), a key factor in its ability to achieve gray balance or neutral gray tones. Whereas a typical 1D LUT adjusts colors on separate tables for each red, green, and blue, the 3D LUT accomplishes this on a single, mixed-color cubic table.

The ColorEdge CG243W fulfills Fogra’s “Monitor PreCert” Class A criteria which consist of viewing angle and uniformity requirements. This means solution venders can use the CG243W in softproofing systems they submit to Fogra4 for certification.

Additional Features
* Illumined on-screen button guide for easy OSD adjustment in a dark working environment.
* 82 mm height adjustment, 40° tilt, 70° swivel, and 90° pivot for portrait display.
* Simulates two types of red-green color vision deficiency – protanopia and deuteranopia – for verification of how color schemes appear to those with color blindness.5 All simulation is done in real time for both still and moving images.
* USB 2.0 hub with one upstream and two downstream ports.
* Monitor hood to shield the screen from ambient light and screen cleaner are bundled.
* Five-year warranty6.

Availability
The ColorEdge CG243W is now shipping. EIZO is showcasing the ColorEdge CG243W at PhotoPlus Expo in New York City, USA from October 22-24 in booth 359.
