Epson and Philips Press Release

Epson® and Philips joint solution - watch and print images via the television

See, share and re-live your memories with the PhotoViewer; the easiest way to view and print your digital photos in high-definition in the living room.

23rd November 2007 – Philips and Epson have joined forces in an innovative new solution that reflects a new era in home entertainment and digital photography. The PhotoViewer brings the traditional family experience of enjoying slide shows into the 21st century with an additional modern twist. The PhotoViewer makes it possible to watch photos on a large TV screen and print them while sitting back and relaxing on the sofa.  Each time a favourite photo appears in high-definition on the big screen, simply press the print button on the remote control and the attached Epson PictureMate PM 240 photo printer will print an immediate gift or memento.

Viewing photos from the LCD screen on a digital camera, or huddling around a computer can make the experience of viewing digital photos with family or friends awkward and inconvenient.  The PhotoViewer creates a relaxed environment by using the large, high- definition TV screen.  It is easy to install and connects directly to the TV with the supplied audio-video cables.  The on-screen menu gives direct access to all photo viewing functions such as zoom, rotate or pause via the remote control.  The Epson printer is easily connected with a standard USB cable and no further PC or software installations are required.

The PhotoViewer allows photos to be viewed in full 1080i high-definition on the television, directly from the memory cards of digital cameras, mobile phones or PDA’s. It also works with USB mass storage devices and hard disks. Simply plug in the card and a photo slideshow immediately appears on the big screen. The remote control can be used to browse the photo collection and select favourite photos. To create additional atmosphere, MP3’s can be added to accompany the slideshow.

Philips and Epson share the belief of developing innovative products that bring technology and consumer-focused solutions together.  This partnership has resulted in a product that offers a combination of the photo printing expertise of Epson with the extensive consumer experience of Philips. The PhotoViewer provides the best elements of both companies in one solution.

Yasbir Sihan, Marketing Programme Manager, Epson Europe, says, “The slideshow has been brought into the 21st century, large-screen viewing is a great way to re-live the moment and to share photos with friends and family.  However the modern slideshow goes one step further than its traditional film-based predecessor.  By connecting an Epson photo printer, printed images can be shared instantaneously.

“The PhotoViewer brings digital photo entertainment into the living room in full high definition, you watch it, you like it and you print it.  It is a fun and simple way to enjoy viewing, sharing and printing photos, extending the TV experience.”
