Epson drives intuitive mobile printing experience for home and business users with Mopria-certified all-in-one printers
13 Epson printers are now certified to work with the MopriaTM Print Service
18 September – Underscoring its commitment to creating a better, easier and more accessible user experience for mobile printing, Epson has today announced that 13 of its latest home and business printers[1] have gained Mopria-certified status.
The need for mobile printing is increasing rapidly, with the ownership of smartphones and tablets expected to reach 5.1 billion worldwide by 2018[2]. Epson’s mobile print efforts are designed to embrace both the rapidly evolving demands of mobile customers and the diversity of multiple operating systems. One key initiative is Epson’s commitment to the Mopria Alliance’s mission for intuitive mobile printing. Mopria members are advancing mobile print standards that allow business and home users to print regardless of brand, device or operating system.
By becoming certified, Epson’s printers will work with the Mopria Print Service and the built-in Printing Framework in Android v4.4 or later (KitKat). After ensuring the printer has the latest version of firmware installed, Android 4.4 users can print from Google apps such as Chrome, Gmail, Drive and QuickOffice, as well as the Adobe Reader and Kingsoft WPS Office App. With Android projected to account for 74 percent of global smartphones and tablets sold in 20142, Epson is actively enabling intuitive printing for an unprecedented number of new Android users.
Simon Hanly, product manager at Epson UK, commented: “With European tablet and smartphone sales almost seven times greater than desktop sales2 and two of every five employees using smartphones at work3, the need for intuitive mobile printing options and support is apparent. Epson is proud to actively support an industry-wide movement to streamline mobile printing ease-of-use and accessibility.”
From today, Mopria-certified mobile devices will be able to automatically detect the following Epson Mopria-certified printers through their Wi-Fi connection, Expression Home XP-322, Expression Home XP-422, Expression Home XP-425, Expression Premium XP-520, Expression Premium XP-620, Expression Premium XP-625, Expression Premium XP-720, Expression Premium XP-820, Expression Photo XP-760, Expression Photo XP-860, WorkForce WF-2630, WorkForce WF-2660 and WorkForce WF-2650.
