LIFE THROUGH THE LENS IN THE YORKSHIRE DALES: Photographic Team to Tackle the Dales in September
In an age where cameras are common and technology changes monthly, one group is gearing up to push photography’s human limits. From September 11-18, roughly a dozen photographers of a wide variety of backgrounds and skills will live together in a small village in Arkengarthdale in order to develop a collective impression of one of England’s most cherished landscapes: the Yorkshire Dales.
Working as a team, these image-makers will endeavor to “live exposed” by instigating a variety of photography-driven activities and events, exploring the region ?rst-hand through image-making and working to tell stories about everything from its history to geology to culture. Along the way they will record and share pieces of their own experience as well as meet, discuss, and collaborate their efforts with the local community.
Dubbed Exposure: England, the culmination of the week will see selections of the photography shared locally, and afterwards far beyond. Partnership with the Swaledale Museum in Reeth has been established to further both the ?eldwork and archival aspects of the project.
Any parties interested in participating as an Exposure: England photographer are invited to complete an application online, but must submit all required materials by 21 July 2010. All photographers, regardless of age or experience, are encouraged to apply. Several scholarships will be made to applicants based on submission merit.
For those who have a potential topic, story, or idea in the Yorkshire Dales that they would like the Exposure: England team to pursue, they are encouraged to get in touch by emailing [email protected]
The initiative is organized by Living Exposed, a photography collective directed by photographer Jesse Stephen stemming from interests and studies in anthropology and archaeology. Living Exposed was founded in 2009, and the ?rst Exposure project took place on the Big Island of Hawai’i earlier this year.
