Field and Online Workshops with a Working Pro
Sean Arbabi, a 20-year commercial photographer out of the San Francisco Bay Area, offers a mix of workshops around the world. This Saturday, August 29th, he’ll be at Book Passage in Corte Madera CA (just north of San Francisco) teaching a half day course on exposure, immediately followed by a book signing of his 225-page paperback The BetterPhoto Guide to Exposure (Amphoto/ Random House).
Sean workshops range from one-day classes through the Point Reyes Field Seminars (Pt Reyes, California), to four-day seminars at Art Wolfe’s Digital Photography Center (Seattle, Washington), week-long sessions at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops (Santa Fe, New Mexico), to month-long online courses with BetterPhoto.com (worldwide). Over the past three years, he has taught students from 27 countries and 41 US States, ranging in topics from exposure, lighting, composition, nature, travel, and the business of photography.
With a BA in commercial photography from Brooks Institute, Arbabi specializes in adventure, conceptual, lifestyle, and travel photography for advertising, corporate and editorial clients. “I believe with the background I bring in digital photography, outdoor and on-location lighting, nature, studio work, as well as travel, I can teach on almost any aspect of photography - all from the perspective of a working pro. But besides all of that, I simply enjoy teaching people difficult photographic concepts, love seeing them improve their own work, as well as making them laugh and have fun in the process!”
Besides teaching workshops the past 10 years, Sean has shot over a million images, many published in ads, books, catalogs, magazines, and on websites. His work has appeared around the world in numerous countries and with clients including GEO Germany, Microsoft, National Geographic, The New York Times, Random House, Outside, Sunset, and Timex. He’s also working on two new books while he develops a how-to television show on photography. You may recall his piece on our blog a few weeks ago called How to Survive the Credit Crunch.
