Five new talents for broncolor Gen NEXT
In its second edition, the photography competition, broncolor Gen NEXT has found another five young talents, who will be supported by the Swiss flashlight systems manufacturer, broncolor, for the next three years. As Gen NEXT ambassadors, they each receive broncolor equipment to the value of USD 24,000. Furthermore, they are presented with the opportunity to showcase their work through broncolor’s worldwide channels as well as the project's blog, gennext.broncolor.com
Being a Gen NEXT ambassador opens up a world of possibilities, as, Lara Jade (USA), Benjamin Von Wong (CAN), Dustin Snipes (USA), Jason Jia (CHN) and Manuel Mittelpunkt (GER) already know. As winners of the first edition, they’ve completed numerous exciting projects, which can be seen worldwide on gennext.broncolor.com
These talented photographers are now joined by the second generation of Gen NEXT members, Gonzaga Manso (ESP), Lauri Laukkanen (FIN), Anita Anti (UKR), Cristina Otero (ESP) und Yulia Gorbachenko (UKR), who beat out first-rate competitors from all over the world with their exceptional work.
Gonzaga Manso (ESP) from Spain focuses on advertising and artistic photography, helping him impress with ingenious studio shots. “That's where I can build the exact places I imagine and where I can control everything: from the material and texture of the walls to the proportions, the color palette, the shape of that stain on the carpet or the perfect light for the model”, he explains. His ambition “to craft atmospheres and characters and above all, to tell stories”, the young photographer has already gained national and international awards. His fellow countrywoman Cristina Otero (ESP) has caused quite a stir at an early age.
Having her first solo exhibition in 2011 at only 16 years of age, she became the youngest Spanish artist to exhibit individually in a gallery to date. “My photography is home for strange creatures and monsters with a past, present and future. They tell about other worlds, drawing the viewer to try and decipher their stories”, she says about her photography. She still likes to use herself as the main model.
Ukraine-born Anita Anti (UKR) recently moved to New York to conquer the world of photography. Acquiring her knowledge through social media and online photo communities, the self-taught photo artist focuses on creating fine art female portraits. “My images are fairy-tale, mystic, feminine, fragile and thoughtful”, she describes, “that show another, gentle and romantic side of me”.
Yulia Gorbachenko (UKR) also grew up in Ukraine before moving to New York. “The city inspires me to do more, to grow faster, to dream bigger“, she enthuses. She grew to specialize in fashion and beauty photography. “That's where a very subtle detail can make dramatic difference“, she says.
Lauri Laukkanen (FIN) swapped a promising future as an apprentice investment banker for a career in photography. It’s a risk that has already paid off, not least by his selection as a Gen NEXT ambassador. A successful online tutor and advertising photographer, he has traveled to more than 30 countries on commercial assignments for established international clients. “I see photography as a way of expressing something deeper than just words. It’s about conveying emotion and a narrative in a beautiful two-dimensional format”, he says. With his keen sense for perfect light, he’s an ideal candidate for the Gen NEXT program. “In my work, lighting is one of the key elements in taking that story and that emotion, to the next level”, the young Fin says.
