FotoWeek DC Announces Satellite Central

FotoWeek DC has announced a second FotoWeek location, called Satellite Central, which will feature FotoWeek programmes at 3333 M St. NW in Georgetown. FotoWeek is a week-long festival held in Washington, DC from 6-13 November 2010. Highlights of festivities taking place at Satellite Central include projection theatres presenting boundary-breaking photography shows, competition projections showing work from finalists of the 2010 International Awards Competition, and many more. SATELLITE CENTRAL: WHERE EVERYONE IS SEEN
Saturday, November 6th through Saturday, November 13th
Washington, DC [October 27, 2010] – While the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design will be known as FotoWeek Central from November 6-13, a second location, known as Satellite Central, will feature FotoWeek programs at 3333 M St. NW in Georgetown. The 7,000 square foot building will house programs which will compliment the events taking place at the Corcoran during FotoWeek by featuring projection theatres, exhibitions, lectures, FotoBooks, special events, and the 10-hour photo marathon known as NightVisions.

Exhibitions
Projection Theatres November 6 – 13; All Day
Four projection theaters will present boundary-breaking photography shows focused on social justice, fine art, and environmental issues.
FotoBooks November 6 – 13; All Day
A collection of FotoBooks published by leading national and international art book publishers, will be on display for casual and avid admirers to browse.
Thumbnail Show November 6 – 13; All Day
A display of all 6500+ entries received for the International Awards Competition.
Competition Projections November 6 – 13; All Day
Work from finalists of the 2010 International Awards Competition and the 2010 Youth Contest will be projected throughout the week.
NightVisions November 6 – 7; 8pm-6am
A program where a photography exhibition is built from the ground up during a 10-hour period. The exhibition starts and ends with photos being taken, edited, printed, and displayed. Work will be on display from 11/7 through 11/14.

Brightest Young Things November 10; 8pm-11pm
A sampling of the photographic work done over the past four years by some of the hippest DC social scene documentarians.
Metro Collective November 11; 8pm-11pm
A showcase featuring a vibrant slideshow from the 12 photographers of Metro Collective, accompanied by music composed by Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation.
Slideluck Potshow November 12; 7pm-11pm
An evening filled with mingling, dining, and a spectacular slideshow.
Lectures
Photographer Presents November 6, 12pm-4pm & November 7, 12pm-5pm
A series of back-to-back lectures from on a variety of subjects by expert photographers.
Corcoran Hours Extended & FREE ~ The Corcoran Gallery of Art - FotoWeek Central - will be open to the public with NO ADMISSION CHARGE during FotoWeek DC: November 6-13, 2010. FotoWeek DC was founded in 2008 and has evolved from a city-centric photography festival to a multi-season tribute to photography in all its forms. The festival celebrates the transformative power of photography through the exhibition of inspiring and provocative images, diverse programming, and collaboration with the local and international community.
ABOUT THE CORCORAN
The Corcoran Gallery of Art, a privately funded institution, was founded in 1869 as Washington’s first and largest nonfederal museum of art. It is known internationally for its distinguished collection of historical and modern American art as well as contemporary art, photography, European painting, sculpture and the decorative arts.
