Gather Press Release
Prizes Include Professional Family Photography Session, Gift Cards, and a Year’s Supply of Milk
BOSTON, Mass. (October 29, 2008) – Did you ever think your photography tricks could earn you Halloween treats? To celebrate Halloween and the launch of their new photo upload technology, Gather (www.gather.com), the social network with substance for the over-30 crowd, today launched a costume photo contest, sponsored by chocolate milk: the official “got milk?” drink of Halloween. Gather members who share a favorite Halloween costume photo are entered to win a session with a professional family photographer, $50 Target Gift Cards, or a year’s supply of milk, all courtesy of the national milk mustache “got milk?” campaign.
Gather members’ photo entries will be judged in the following categories:
• Cutest Kids
• Family Fun
• Precious Pets
• Most Creative
• Milk Mustache
The five most-viewed entries in each category will be announced as finalists. Gather judges will announce one winner in each category and an overall Grand Prize Winner on Monday, November 10th. The winner of each category will receive a $50 Target Gift Card, and one Grand Prize Winner will receive a professional photo shoot with a local photographer for his or her family. Additionally, the winner of the Milk Mustache category will receive a one-year supply of free milk.
“Encouraging kids to drink more milk is a great way to steer them from empty-calorie drinks and the Halloween candy bowl. Low-fat chocolate milk is a delicious, nutritious alternative,” said Carolyn O’Neil, MS, RD.
From today through Thursday, November 6th, entrants can post their photo contest submissions to Gather’s Manic Mommies group (themanicmommies.gather.com) using Gather’s new photo-sharing and digital album technology. Members who upload photos should tag the photo with the category they are entering. (Multiple submissions are permitted.)
Gather’s New Photo Upload Technology
Gather’s new photo upload technology is easy to use and features a unique slideshow setting, which displays photos in an aesthetically pleasing presentation. Gather supports JPG, GIF, and PNG formats, with file sizes up to 6 MB or 1800 pixels in width or height. The application allows members to upload up to 40 photos at a time, with 200 photos per album. Members can caption and tag their photos, geotag each photo, and use in-depth privacy settings to control who can view them.
The new photo enhancements follow Gather’s recent unveiling of its bold new site experience and homepage; the Halloween Photo Contest is an example of Gather’s successfully integrated and engaging sponsored events. Everything about the Gather site has been created based on how adults want to use social networks, as well as feedback from prominent brands seeking to reach a more adult and affluent audience. Privacy features such as “Friend Sets” guarantee that members can share what they want with who they want, and Gatherers can customize their friend updates to see items from their different circles. Gather saves members time and trouble by aggregating thousands of shared interest groups so members can participate in those they care about. And the unique personalized interests feed allows them to effortlessly keep up with the topics that matter most to them.
