Tim Graham’s collection of 30 years of the best royal photography to be available exclusively at the Getty Images Hulton Archive

LONDON, UK – 31 October 2007 – Getty Images has acquired one of the world’s premier collections of imagery depicting the British Royal Family over the last 30 years, taken by widely respected Royal photographer, Tim Graham.  This unique collection, which spans four generations of the Royal Family, contains over 200,000 images and features some of the most significant royal moments of the modern age. It will be housed at Getty Images’ Hulton Archive in London.

Tim Graham has been photographing the Royals for over 30 years, during which time he has captured them informally at home, on duty overseas and at the official events that mark the royal year. The quality of his work led him to be invited for one-to-one portrait sessions with members of the Royal Family, giving him unprecedented access to behind-the-scenes moments in their lives. His royal imagery has appeared in all major magazines and newspapers worldwide, as well as books, TV documentaries, posters, commemoratives, stamps, and calendars. Several of his books of Royal photographs have been international bestsellers.

Along with images of the Royals themselves, including official pictures of Prince William as a baby,  the engagement pictures of Charles and Diana, and an historic session with all the reigning monarchs of Europe,  the collection contains a wealth of ‘behind the scenes’ material. Photographs depicting the details that make such a fascinating insight into the Royals including their homes, jewellery and wardrobe, pageantry and regalia, gifts, pets, cars friends and members of the Royal Household will now be easily accessible to customers. Among those extensively featured in the collection are Queen Elizabeth II, The Prince of Wales and both his wives, Diana and Camilla, Prince William and Prince Harry , as well as the Princess Royal (Anne) and her children Peter and Zara Phillips, the Duke and the Duchess of York and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

“Having photographed Royal occasions for three decades, it is now appropriate for me to look to the future,” comments Tim Graham. “I am aware of the historical significance of my archive and I want to ensure that my photographs will continue to be published worldwide for many years to come.  Getty Images is well-respected in the industry for its principled approach to news and editorial photography and I am delighted that this will be the new home for my Royal archive.  I am looking forward to combining Royal photography with time to travel to new countries and to re-visit favourite places I’ve rushed through on Royal tours. My photographs from those travels will also be available through Getty Images.”

Nick Evans-Lombe, Executive Vice President, Imagery, Products and Services, Getty Images, comments: “The Tim Graham collection is a valuable addition to Getty Images’ Hulton Archive, and will enhance our already strong Royalty collection, that spans back to the birth of the monarchy and beyond. With unique access to Royalty over the last 30 years, Tim’s collection contains a wealth of formal and informal images that are intimate, powerful and intriguing. This collection will enable us to offer clients an unsurpassed selection of Royalty photographs in one place and meet the continued global demand for imagery of the Royal Family.”

Tim Graham will also be signed to Getty Images as a consultant and contributing photographer and will continue to cover the Royals. His new work will be also added to the collection.
