International photography prize launched by Guernsey Photography Festival and Raven Russia Ltd

The Guernsey Photography Festival and Raven Russia Ltd have launched a major international photography competition with a prize of £5000 and an opportunity to exhibit at the next Guernsey Photography Festival.

“We are thrilled to be able to launch this competition and are very thankful to Raven Russia Ltd for helping us make it happen,” says Guernsey Photography Festival Director Jean-Christophe Godet. “It is the logical next step for the Festival as it builds on our aims to promote the work of emerging and established contemporary photographers, whilst also enhancing the Festival’s reputation around the world.”

The competition is open to all photographers, professionals and amateurs alike, who have developed a coherent, artistically driven body of work. There is no set theme.

“We hope that we will see submissions from some really interesting artists as this is a great opportunity to gain valuable exposure,” continues Mr Godet. “We are fortunate to have a jury of well-known figures to judge the work. This includes François Cheval, Director of Musée Nicéphore Niépce, the Magnum photographer Mark Power and Emma Bowkett, the Arts Editor of the Financial Times.” Mr Godet is the fourth member of the jury.

“We are delighted to be able to support this competition,” says Glynn Hirsch CEO of Raven Russia Ltd. “The Guernsey Photography Festival is now an established event that has national and international recognition. This prize will help raise the island’s profile abroad and will further cement Guernsey’s place as a centre of excellence for business and cultural activities. We are proud to be a part of it.”
