GUARDIAN EYEWITNESS PHOTOGRAPHY APP FOR IPAD NOW AVAILABLE
The Guardian today announced that its Guardian Eyewitness photography app for iPad is now available on the App Store. The app, in association with Canon, showcases the Guardian’s hugely-popular Eyewitness images, which are printed in full colour in the centre spread of the Guardian newspaper each day, to showcase some of the world’s best news photography.

Roger Tooth, Head of Photography at the Guardian, said: “Guardian Eyewitness is a daily showcase of some of the world’s best news and features photography, and each day the app will display a new image in a brilliant, large, electronic format. Guardian Eyewitness isn’t just another newspaper photograph – we want to hold the user’s attention for more than two seconds. We want them to study the picture, look at the detail and appreciate the work that the photographer has put into the image. We’ve been waiting for a chance to replicate the scale and the impact of the newspaper’s Eyewitness spread on other digital platforms, and I think this is it. Each Eyewitness picture will be accompanied by a few words written by our photographic team – “pro tips”- which we hope will give users an insight into the creation of great photography.”
Guido Jacobs, Marketing Director, Canon UK Consumer Marketing, said, “Realising the power of image is at the heart of Canon’s philosophy, we are therefore delighted to be working with the Guardian on the Guardian Eyewitness app for iPad. Photography is such an important part of the Guardian and we feel that iPad is the perfect device on which to showcase some of the world’s most stunning images.”
The Guardian Eyewitness photography app for iPad is currently available in the US for free from the App Store on iPad or at http://www.itunes.com/appstore/.
