Hasselblad Press Release

11th September 2008 - Hasselblad Masters Book Launched at photokina 2008

Hasselblad will launch its eagerly awaited Hasselblad Masters book at photokina 2008 in Cologne, Germany (23 – 28 September 2008).  This commemorative book contains a fascinating selection of creative work of the ten chosen Hasselblad Masters of 2008, depicting their personal interpretations of passion, the chosen theme for 2008.

Having originally received over 1,700 entries from photographers around the world, a judging panel had the difficult task of narrowing them down to 100 finalists.  Photographs were entered into one of ten categories: Architectural, Editorial, Fashion/Beauty, Fine Art, General, Landscapes/Nature, Upcoming, Portrait, Products, and Wedding/Social, and the Master winner in each category was chosen by the editors of five respected photographic magazines.  The respective winners were: Benjamin Antony Monn, Germany; Louie Palu, USA; Andrej Kopac, Canada; Julia Fullerton-Batten, UK; Bronek Kozka, Australia; Hans Strand, Sweden; August Bradley, USA; Morfi Jiménez Mercado, Peru; Gregor Halenda, USA and Kevin Then, Malaysia.

Following the announcement of these 2008 Hasselblad Masters in January this year, each Master received a Hasselblad H3DII DSLR camera system to use for four months.  During this time, the Masters were given the opportunity to capture a selection of images to exemplify their interpretations of passion, and the resulting striking images have been included in the Hasselblad Masters book.

Christian Nørgaard, Photographer Relations Manager, Hasselblad, says, “Hasselblad values photographers’ aspirations to have their work published in a top-quality, stylish book, and decided to commemorate their exceptional work this way.  The Hasselblad Masters Book is a special accolade for photographers and will be valued by fine art photography enthusiasts across the board.  With the standard of the Hasselblad Masters entries for 2008 set so high, I’m now really looking forward to seeing the entries from both professional and upcoming photographers for the Masters Awards 2009, which is now open.”

The Hasselblad Masters book is a beautiful, 248 page, hardcover book, published in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish by the German teNeues Publishing Group.  It contains 170 photographs both in colour and black-and-white, as well as biographies and other information on each of the Hasselblad Masters of 2008. The book can be ordered at: http://www.teneues.de/teneuesshop/view_product~id~79262.htm, and is priced at £65/€79.90/US$95.  However, at photokina Hasselblad will also be selling the book, including copies signed by a number of the 2008 Masters, direct from its stand (Hall 2.1, Stand A020/B029) at a specially discounted show price.
