In just six weeks, Hearst Corporation’s 2011 8x10 Photography Biennial Competition has received 1,300+ submissions, already surpassing the total number of entries received for the 2009 competition. PHOTOGRAPHERS LILLIAN BASSMAN, OBERTO GILI AND JEAN-PAUL GOUDE AMONG JUDGES FOR HEARST CORPORATION’S 8 X 10 PHOTOGRAPHY BIENNIAL COMPETITION

New York – February 23, 2010 – In just six weeks, Hearst Corporation’s 2011 8x10 Photography Biennial Competition—which will be judged by a panel of 10, including renowned photographers Lillian Bassman, Oberto Gili and Jean-Paul Goude—has received 1,300+ submissions from all across the U.S. and 40 other countries, surpassing the total number of entries received for the 2009 competition. Hearst Corporation has a distinguished legacy of working with legendary photographers dating from the earliest days of its magazine and newspaper publishing, including Slim Aarons, Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon and today’s contemporary masters.

The second Hearst 8 X 10 Photography Biennial will recognize eight winners and feature their work Hearst Corporation’s two exhibition spaces in the company’s acclaimed New York City headquarters.  The gallery will showcase approximately 100 photographs beginning in January 2011 through May 2011, chosen by 10 judges composed of editors, creative directors, curators, and renowned photographers.
