HP UK Press Release
Protect, share and simplify your digital life with the HP Media Vault - HP launches multifunction network storage device for the home
LONDON, November 27, 2006 – HP today announced the introduction of the HP Media Vault in the UK, a multifunction network storage device for the home. Ideal for digital entertainment enthusiasts, the sleek stylish unit allows users to easily manage, protect and share data and multimedia files across the home network. The digitasation of media has fueled an almost insatiable appetite for storage as consumers hoard digital photos, film, and music. Managing the mounting volumes of digital files is frustrating and protecting them difficult. Buying more USB external hard disk drives momentarily solves the problem, but ultimately creates more frustration. The new HP Media Vault solves the problem by centralizing the storage into a single location on the network, available to anyone, that can grow as the consumer’s needs increase.
The HP Media Vault is available in two models, 300GB and 500GB. Best-in-class performance and future-proofing is added with SATA 2 hard disk drives, an empty expansion bay to increase capacity up to 1.2TB, added protection with redundant backup capability (RAID 1) and Gigabit Ethernet support makes fast connection to any computer on the network –both wired and wirelessly.
With peace of mind and simplicity primary concerns for home users, the HP Media Vault comes with an easy-to-use software package that can be customized to automatically back up all the computers on the network daily, weekly or continuously – as often as the user requires. The HP Media Vault also sports three USB ports for ease of connectivity and a built in print server allowing the user to share up to three USB printers throughout the network.
Jeff Kraft, EMEA Product Manager, HP, said: “The rapid rise of digital and converged devices in the home, and continued trend towards digitised and high-definition content, has opened up a critical need for reliable and flexible home storage solutions. Increasingly, in the home, such solutions are not just holding data but personal memories too through digital images, video and music –priceless, irreplaceable memories that most people don’t want to take a chance losing.
The HP Media Vault is the result of HP innovating in response to growing customer problem. HP is using its combined consumer and enterprise expertise, and strengths in imaging, printing, computing and storage together to provide a solution which will grow as a household’s data grows.”
HP Media Vault delivers total media manageability in four key areas:
1.) Protecting – simple-to-use back up software can be set to continuously protect and secure digital content
2.) Sharing - favourite films, photos, and music can be easily controlled and shared over the home network
3.) Streaming - content can be streamed to any computer or, with a digital media adapter, to any TV or entertainment centre on the network.
4.) Accessible - ease of accessibility, thanks to HP’s heritage in simplifying digital technology and network management, wherever a user is in the home
