HP Photosmart 8750HP UK Press Release

Display Your Art with the First 9-ink Professional Photo Printer, the HP Photosmart 8750 including HP Vivera Inks

Advanced photo printing up to A3+ and built-in network capability for professional photographers

BIRMINGHAM, UK, February 28, 2005 - HP today announced the launch of its new HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer, a high performance device developed for professional photographers. With nine HP Vivera Inks, photographers can produce studio quality prints in colour and in black and white, on paper up to A3+ size with a printable area of 330 x 483mm. This printer provides all the convenience of developing photos at home and also offers photographers a brilliant combination of image quality, built-in networking, fade resistance and speed.

The 9-ink HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer uses specially formulated inks in three inkjet print cartridges at the heart of its system: the new large body HP 102 Grey Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge, HP 101 Blue Inkjet Print Cartridge and the existing HP 344 Tri-Colour Inkjet Print Cartridge1. Using these cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light magenta, blue, light grey, medium grey and photo black inks together, produces studio quality printing in colour and in black and white.

The new HP 101 Blue Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge allows photographers to realise their vision in true colour, from landscapes to seascapes, by providing 25 percent more blue chroma than 8-ink printing2. Combining the blue ink with the other colours in greyscale printing improves colour accuracy in prints and produces consistent and controlled neutral tones.  This is achieved by using grey inks as a component of each colour to make it lighter or darker. This removes the need to mix colour inks to create composite grey which can generate hue shifts and increase the risk of graininess. This significant difference makes the HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer the ideal solution for high quality black and white as well as colour printing.

The HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer is the first HP Photosmart Printer to offer the opportunity to print on A3+ size paper. Combining this printer with HP Vivera Inks and HP Premium Plus Photo Paper delivers high levels of fade resistance3, enabling professional photographers to print artwork, albums, look books and small batch jobs, on a variety of sized HP papers that will resist fading for generations4. HP Premium Plus Photo Paper is available in a number of sizes including 10 x 15 cm, large snapshot 13 x 18 cm, panorama10 x 30 cm, A4 and A3+. This paper range produces excellent image and line quality and is highly durable. For easy handling when printing on specific paper the HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer has a by-pass and rear straight paper path.  Customisable preset output options are included for ease.

The HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer offers advanced connectivity options. With a built-in Ethernet, it is possible to access the printer from multiple workstations.  For example, in a photo studio, photographers can connect and print from a laptop, a storage station, or an editing station.  The printer can also be accessed wirelessly through a wireless router. When connected to the network, all functions are supported, including the direct printing from selected memory cards such as Compact Flash I and II, SecureDigital, MultiMedia, xD and Sony Memory Stick using USB interface. Once connected, the HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer driver allows easy management of ICC profiles and supports 4800-optimised dpi. This enables better control of colour workflow and advanced colour mapping, for extreme detail rendering and more accurate colour.

For budding professional photographers the HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer has automatic paper-type detection, a standard paper tray, a by-pass paper path and a rear straight paper path. Among the tools and controls available is a card slot to allow the photographer to produce quality print proofs quickly and check the composition, sharpness, contrast and overall artistic interest of the image.

The HP Photosmart 8750 Professional Photo Printer will be available from May 2005 at a recommended street price of £399 (actual prices may vary).

Also available is the HP Photosmart 8750gp Professional Photo Printer, which includes the HP Colourimeter, powered by GretagMacbeth. This technology measures the colour profile on the display in order to match what the photographer sees with the application. This device ensures that the screen image accurately reflects what will be printed. The HP Photosmart 8750gp is available in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland, with a recommended street price of 479 GBP (actual prices may vary).
