Samsung and Microsoft Jointly Bestowed Visionary Award for Hybrid Hard Disk
SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Jan. 12, 2006—Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology together with Microsoft Corporation have been awarded the Visionary Consumer Electronics Award of the 2006 StorageVisions Conference for their pioneering work on Hybrid Hard Disks.
The Fifth Annual Storage Visions Conference (a partner program to the 2006 International CES) awards were presented before hundreds of show attendees at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The trophy was awarded for advancing the state of the art in storage technology for the consumer electronics, media and entertainment industries.
“We are honored that the developmental work we and Samsung have completed on the Hybrid Hard Disks is being internationally recognized for the markedly improved performance it will provide when used with the Windows Vista(TM) operating system,” said Stuart Ashmun, general manager, Microsoft Corporation.
“The value of combining flash and HDD in a single system for consumers is undeniable. We are grateful that the StorageVisions judges have seen how our work with Microsoft on the hybrid hard drive has produced such an outstanding contribution to faster computer boot up, smoother data processing, reduced power consumption and improved system reliability,” said Jon Kang, senior vice president, Technical Marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.
The Hybrid Hard Disk is expected to be produced by many of the industry leaders later this year.
Engage Capital and the Storage Visions Conference this year co-sponsored the StorageVisions awards for the third year in a row. Storage Visions 2006—the only event focusing on digital storage and the entertainment content value chain—took place at the Las Vegas Convention Center January 6 and 7, 2006.
