ILFORD Photo Competition - Image on a Box
ILFORD Photo Press Release
How long would £500 of ILFORD black-and-white photo products last the average enthusiast photographer? Quite a while? That’s one aspect of a new ILFORD Photo-sponsored black-and-white print competition which offers to immortalise the winners’ prints.
Image on a Box - ILFORD Photo has launched its first UK photo print competition since the company’s restructuring last year with a set of unique prizes for the winners. In addition to receiving ILFORD Photo products to the value of £500 and £250 for first and second places respectively, and £100 each for third and fourth, the four winners will have their images printed on boxes and envelopes of ILFORD Photo paper.
These storage boxes are a feature of every darkroom in the world which is serious about producing the best quality black-and-white prints, and these special editions are likely to become sought-after artefacts by all collectors of photographic memorabilia.
The winner of the prestigious first prize in ILFORD Photo’s Image on a Box competition will see his or her winning image printed onto the cover of boxes containing MULTIGRADE IV RC DELUXE 8x10ins gloss paper, while the second-place winner’s image will go onto boxes of MULTIGRADE IV RC DELUXE 8x10ins pearl paper. The third and fourth prize-winning images will go onto the envelopes which contain pearl and gloss finish MULTIGRADE IV RC DELUXE 8x10ins papers.
These fabulous premium quality papers provide seven full grades of contrast in half grade steps. MULTIGRADE IV RC DELUXE is a standard weight (190gsm) paper with a bright base tint which means the image colour remains cool-to-neutral whether viewed in daylight or fluorescent light, and is available in three surfaces: glossy, satin and pearl. MULTIGRADE IV RC PORTFOLIO, meanwhile, has a double weight (250gsm) resin coated base, and is available in glossy and pearl finishes. They are the most popular black-and-white papers now available, so the images on the packaging will receive worldwide distribution and recognition.
The competition is free and easy to enter - the images can be of any subject matter provided they can be reproduced in square format, and there is no limit to the number of entries which can be made. The only requirement is that the prints have been produced using ILFORD film and paper. The entrant’s name and address should be attached to the back of each print in the top left hand corner, and an SAE supplied for their return.
The closing date for submitting entries to ILFORD Photo’s head office at Town Road, Mobberley, Knutsford, Cheshire WA16 7JL, is 17th March. They can also be handed into ILFORD Photo’s stand at the Focus on Imaging exhibition (NEC, Birmingham, 26th Feb-1st March) where competition entrants will receive a free roll of ILFORD FP4 Plus 36-exposure film.
This has to be an important event in any photographers’ year, especially those who enjoy the benefits of black-and-white photography. Do not miss this opportunity for being part of the ILFORD Photo story, and preserving your print as a future collectable icon.
