ILFORD to sponsor European photographic exhibition as official partner and award host

Award winning ILFORD GALERIE GOLD Fibre Silk selected as official prize name

Marly, Switzerland, 22 June, 2008 – ILFORD announces today its sponsorship of the fourth edition of the festival Triestèfotografia, a photography exhibition and competition that will begin in Trieste, Italy, on the 24th of June, 2008 and continue with a series of exhibitions in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany and Austria that will run until September, 2008. The official prize, named after the ILFORD award winning GALERIE GOLD Fibre Silk, will be given to the overall winner on June 24th in the Circolo delle Assicurazioni Generali, Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi, Trieste, at 11:00 a.m.

Triestèfotografia was initially created in September 2005 by curator Alessio Curto and promoted by the cultural association Juliet, with the objective of displaying the work of photographers in various cultural places of interest throughout Trieste. This year, with participation from some 40 photographers from several nations, the exhibition will be displayed in a number of prestigious locations including the ‘Italian Area’ of Munich airport in August, 2008.

The festival decided to name their award after ILFORD GALERIE GOLD as the professional inkjet media is ideal for displaying images in galleries. The ultimate aim of many photographers is to produce prints that equal or surpass that of traditional silver halide, but with all the convenience of modern inkjet technology. ILFORD GALERIE GOLD accomplishes this and represents the digital equivalent of a classic air-dried, glossy, black and white darkroom paper. The product is extremely versatile for both black and white and colour output, enabling photographers to achieve spectacular results every time.

“We are delighted that ILFORD has accepted to support the Triestèfotografia festival”, said Isabella Bembo, the event manager. “ILFORD has long been associated with quality and expertise in the photographic arena and its GALERIE GOLD Fibre Silk paper is further proof that the company understands what professionals are really looking for. Fine arts photographers often depend on large, established organisations to promote their work and to bring their images to life and it’s a real credit to ILFORD that the company continues to support artists on a local level,” she concluded.

Alessandro Paderni, a photographer specialising in interior design, was selected by a panel of judges as the exhibition’s overview winner. His work is critically acclaimed by major Italian design companies for the use of digital photography and for his understanding of colour techniques.

Commenting on the company’s sponsorship of the event, Andy Stewart, Sales and Marketing Director, ILFORD Imaging Switzerland GmbH, said: “ILFORD is very proud to be the main sponsor of this exciting photo exhibition. ILFORD is synonymous with photography and professional inkjet printing and this is a perfect opportunity for the company to support the photographic community on a European-wide level.”
