Renowned photographer Paula Barr to showcase Gulf Coast Echo images on ILFORD ILFOCHROME

Marly, Switzerland- ILFORD announces today its sponsorship of a photo exhibition by renowned photographer Paula Barr, at next year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, from 23-27 January 2008.

Showcasing images of the most affected locations along the coast-hugging, USA Route 90 Highway, Gulf Coast Echo is a photographic journal that tells the story of the devastating effects hurricanes can have on displaced persons and survivors, who are neglected and moved around in the storms’ aftermath.

Using ILFORD ILFOCHROME media, Paula Barr was able to use a medium that would really capture the detail and impact of her images, as she explains: “I am very honored to be a part of this forum and to have the opportunity to showcase my work. As an artist, it is important to use high quality and archival material to ensure the best possible results. With the support of ILFORD and the use of ILFORD color products, I have been able to produce superior quality prints from my digital files and color negatives.”

The ILFOCHROME media has long been acknowledged for producing bright, striking images from color positives, such as slide films or digital files, due to the image-forming dyes in the product. The picture is formed by selective removal of dye during the photographic development process, which ensures the color that forms the final image is a faithful representation of the original subject. The resulting print combines unmatched color rendition, sharpness, contrast, and legendary stability enabling photographers and artists alike to bring out a variety of subtle details which may otherwise have gone unnoticed.

“ILFORD is particularly proud to support Paula’s exhibition and to be a part of such an important event as the World Economic Forum”, said Andrew Stewart, Sales and Marketing Director, ILFORD Imaging Switzerland GmbH. “The overwhelming destruction and suffering caused by natural disasters are sometimes difficult to convey through words. Paula’s images do much to portray the devastating impact experienced by the people in the affected communities, and are important in helping to raise public awareness of environmental and social issues. We are very happy to lend our support to this cause and to such a high profile international event.”

The exhibition has been organized by Julia Van Haaften, former curator and founder of the photography collection at The New York Public Library in New York City.

About Paula Barr
PAULA BARR was raised in Mobile, Alabama, in the American South, where her roots still run deep. She completed art studies in the North and established herself as a photographer in New York City while still a young woman.

Attracted to architectural, engineering and industrial subjects, Paula Barr tackled them ingeniously as a freelance photographer for public agencies as well as corporations ranging from the Museum of Modern Art (New York) and the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum, to Goldwater Memorial Hospital and AON Corporation, among many others.

As a result of her numerous visits to the Gulf Coast Region, her desire to support recovery efforts has increased over the years. Through “Gulf Coast Echo”, Paula hopes to keep alive the “old news” of the region’s unfinished recovery by focusing on what was lost and what needs to be regained.
