LEARN HOW TO BE A TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER STANFORDS TRAVEL BOOKSHOP – TUESDAY OCTOBER 25

Ever dreamed of earning a living by travelling to far away places and taking photographs for travel companies, newspapers, picture libraries and publishers? If so, paying for your adventures by selling those images need no longer be a pipe dream, thanks to a Travel Photography Master Class which is to be held in London’s Covent Garden at Stanfords, the world’s leading specialist retailer of maps and travel books, on Tuesday October 25,, 2011 at 7.30pm.

The event is timed to coincide with the announcement of the winners of Insight Guides’ own annual travel photography competition, run in association with the Independent on Sunday, giving those interested in participating in next year’s competition a chance to see what they are up against. First prize is a much sought after photographic commission with Insight Guides, worth £3,000, to photograph a travel destination for a future guide book, helping to pave the way for a new and exciting career in travel photography.  There will also be fabulous Olympus cameras for all winners and a night in luxury at the new Corinthia Hotel in London’s Whitehall.

Among those imparting expert knowledge will be Steven Lawrence, Insight Guides’ picture editor, who will reveal what he looks for in a photographer and his or her photographs. Joining him will be two photographers at the top of their game, who are regularly commissioned by Insight Guides. They will be Kevin Cummins whom, quite apart from being a highly successful travel photographer, is one of the world’s most admired music and portrait photographers.  Also disclosing his tricks of the trade will be Neil Buchan Grant who many years ago was a winner of Insight Guides’ travel photography competition and was a finalist in Travel Photographer of the Year. Neil will be fresh back from a shoot in Sicily for Insight.  Joining the panel to take questions will be Sophie Batterbury, picture editor of the Independent on Sunday.

Insight’s travel guides pioneered the use of images to communicate the atmosphere of a destination.  And their title, Insight Guide to Travel Photography – How to Take Striking Images is a practical Guide for the enthusiastic amateur and complete beginner that explains how to take the perfect travel shot.
