Kingston DataTraveler ReadyFlash
The new Kingston DataTraveler ReadyFlash USB 2.0 flash drive has been developed to support Microsoft Windows ReadyBoost technology, part of Windows Vista. Windows ReadyBoost allows your system to utilise an additional memory source, alongside DRAM, for processing data and applications. Therefore the DataTraveler ReadyFlash can be used as a flexible storage medium for Windows ReadyBoost cache. The 1Gb version costs £14, with the 2Gb version retailing at £25 (VAT not included).

Kingston Unveils New DataTraveler - Enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost
- New DataTraveler ReadyFlash Allows Users to Take Full Advantage of Windows Vista -
[30 January 2007] Kingston Technology, the world’s leading independent memory manufacturer, today announced the launch of its new DataTraveler ReadyFlash USB 2.0 Flash drive for use in Windows Vista-based systems. The DataTraveler ReadyFlash (DTR) has been developed to support Microsoft Windows ReadyBoost technology. Designed and tested by Kingston Technology to the precise performance specifications outlined by Microsoft, the DataTraveler ReadyFlash is available through Kingston’s global channel of distributors, resellers, retailers and e-tailers.
Jim Selby, Product Marketing Manager EMEA, Kingston Technology comments, “Kingston is dedicated to providing its customers with memory solutions based on the latest innovative technologies, including Microsoft’s new Windows Vista operating system.” Selby continues, “We are delighted to be working with Microsoft to help users of Windows Vista maximise the features and performance of the operating system.”
Whilst adding system memory is the best way to increase performance, Windows ReadyBoost allows your system to utilise an additional memory source, alongside DRAM, for processing data and applications. For example, if a notebook has a maximum memory capacity of 1GB, Windows ReadyBoost allows the use of a Flash memory device, such as the DataTraveler ReadyFlash, as a flexible storage medium for Windows ReadyBoost cache.
Brad Goldberg, general manager for Microsoft Windows comments, “Windows Vista and the 2007 Office system will create a platform for the next generation of user experiences and we are excited to see the industry come together like never before around these products.” Goldberg continues, “By working closely with partners such Kingston Technology, we are able to provide consumers worldwide with an experience that is easier, safer, more entertaining and better connected, whether at home, at work, or on the go.”
The DataTraveler ReadyFlash is a USB 2.0 Flash drive enhanced for use with the Windows ReadyBoost. When connected to a Windows Vista-based system’s USB 2.0 port, the Windows Vista AutoPlay dialogue box will offer the option of using the device for Windows ReadyBoost. However, only devices like the Kingston DTR meet the performance requirements and capacity threshold for Windows ReadyBoost.
