Kodak Join Forces with The Prince's TrustKodak UK Press Release

Company to adopt Teams in Harrow and Hemel Hempstead in support of young people

Hemel Hempstead, April 25th 2005 - Kodak will be supporting the unique work of The Prince’s Trust in the areas of two of its key UK sites in support of young people facing barriers into work or further education. Kodak will adopt a Team of young people between 16-25 for a 12-week programme of personal development in both Hemel Hempstead and Harrow, with the specific aim of recruiting a proportion of participants from community disability groups.

Team Details:
Hemel Hempstead - Start Date 13th June at West Herts College on the Dacorum Campus in association with Watford YMCA
Harrow - Start Date 26th September at The Lodge, Harrow-on-the-Hill in association with Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College

In addition to adopting the Teams, Kodak will provide digital cameras to enable Team participants to record their individual experiences and challenges and will promote employee volunteering on both the Teams and other projects near Kodak locations, including Kirkby near Liverpool.

The aim of The Prince’s Trust is to help young people overcome barriers and to get their lives working. The focus is on young people who struggle at school, are in or leaving care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. Since HRH The Prince of Wales founded the charity in 1976, The Prince’s Trust has helped over half a million young people (529,000) transform their lives; the equivalent to helping every resident in a city the size of Edinburgh.

Martina Milburn, Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust said, “Our partnership with Kodak will help The Prince’s Trust to support more young people transform their lives and realise their potential. Through Kodak’s support, The Prince’s Trust will help young people, including those with disabilities, in the local areas around Kodak’s offices in Harrow and Hemel Hempstead. This not only helps more 16-25 year olds get their lives back on track, but also has a significant impact on the local community through the voluntary work they do.”

“Kodak is delighted to support the work of the Prince’s Trust in such a practical way,” said Jane Guinn, Chairman and Managing Director of Kodak Limited. “These programmes are astoundingly successful with on average, seven out of ten young people going on to a job, education or training. In particular, disabled young people face significant problems in accessing education and employment and by sponsoring these groups we can help raise awareness of disability as an issue among those taking part and our employees whilst strengthening links within the local communities where Kodak is sited. It’s a win, win situation.”
