Digital and Analogue KODAK products win awards from European photography magazines

Kodak wins TIPA awards for Best Films and Best Digital Photo Printers

May 2004 - The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), a non-profit making organisation, with 30 active members, representing photography magazines in 12 countries in Europe, recently selected three Kodak products as winners of TIPA Awards. The prize-winning products are a Digital Photo Printer and two Black-and-White films. A panel of TIPA members judged these products as the best in their respective categories.

This year, Kodak is introducing a large number of new digital and film products and services that will enable people to enjoy a richer photographic experience regardless of the medium they use. Ranging from new digital cameras and professional films to kiosks and dye-sublimation printers, the latest Kodak products will expand the ability of consumers to use and enjoy photography at home, online, at retail or in the photo lab.

Kodak intends to maintain a strong participation and leadership position in all three segments of the traditional film photography market: consumer, advanced amateur and professional. Kodak’s focus on an advanced film portfolio is illustrated by the recent introduction of high definition emulsions like the prize-winning KODAK Professional BW400CN film, a multi-purpose, black-and-white chromogenic film designed for processing in colour negative chemistry. It is different from traditional black-and-white films because it provides the elegance of black-and-white imagery with the convenience of printing on standard colour paper. BW400CN provides extremely fine grain, outstanding highlight and shadow detail and a smooth, neutral tone scale. The film makes it much simpler for photographers to make high-quality black-and-white prints, as it can be developed in any photo lab or retail shop that uses a C-41 Process.

The TIPA judging panel issued the following statement about its choice of the new BW400CN film as Best Film: ?With the introduction of the BW 400CN black-and-white film, Kodak has shown its continued commitment to film. The outstanding image quality and the very convenient CN-processing makes this the black-and-white film of choice for photographers who are looking for the artistic value of black-and-white photography.?

Gold Medal Award for favourite film of black-and-white photographers
Kodak has been at the forefront of innovation in the imaging industry for more than a century, making Kodak the market leader in helping people capture, share, print and view images - for information, entertainment and memories. To recognise its contribution to photography over a period of 50 years, Kodak Tri-X black-and-White film was selected by the TIPA jury for a special Gold Medal Award. The TIPA jury said, ?During its remarkably long life, Tri-X has captured many of the world?s most iconic images and has remained a favourite film with the most discerning black-and-white photographers. Its continuing popularity, over such a long period of time, sets it apart from other products and has earned it this special TIPA award.?

Digital technology transforms the industry
It is clear that the imaging industry is being transformed by digital technology. This transformation is opening a world of opportunities for manufacturers, retailers and consumers who embrace the technology. Consequently, Kodak is also developing digital products and services that consumers and professionals desire. New products like the prize-winning KODAK Photo Printer 6800 reflect the new, digitally-oriented strategy of Kodak. The TIPA jury selected the new Photo Printer 6800 as Best Dye-Sublimation Photo Printer because ?the Kodak Photo Printer 6800 Dye-Sublimation printing is the method of choice when long-lasting, photo-quality prints are required in seconds and when chemical photo printing is not an option. The Kodak Photo Printer 6800 delivers the promised performance and is an attractive option for retailers or professional photographers who need mobility and high speed/high quality prints at an affordable price.”

Kodak will continue to offer world-class photographic films, chemicals and papers to meet the substantial customer demand for such products. We aim to satisfy the unique requirements of divergent groups of film photographers: consumers who make snapshots simply to record family memories, serious hobbyists who are expanding their photographic skills and working professionals who earn a living from the images they capture. That’s why Kodak is introducing so many new or upgraded films and a variety of durable, high-quality papers for the consumer and professional markets. Kodak plans to offer quality photographic films, chemicals and papers for many years to come.

Kodak also continues to move quickly and decisively to take advantage of the growth opportunities presented by digital imaging. A digitally-oriented strategy will enable our company to stay ahead of changing technology while improving our focus on customer needs. By combining resources and leveraging management talent, Kodak will be able to develop the world-class products and services that customers have come to expect from us.
