Leica are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the launch of the Leica M8, their first-ever digital rangefinder camera, with a special trade-in promotion. The Leica M8 marked the beginning of a new era, bringing the unique characteristics of Leica's rangefinder focusing technology into the world of digital photography. Later models, such as the Leica M9 (2009) – the first Leica camera with a 35mm full-frame sensor – further built on this success and repeatedly set new standards with innovative features and functionality, while always retaining the basic principles of the Leica M-System. Leica UK are celebrating the anniversary with a number of special promotions, available at any authorised UK Leica System Dealer, Leica Boutique or Leica Store. Among these is a trade-in offer allowing customers to trade in any camera for a new Leica M (Typ 240), M-P (Typ 240) or Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) and receive a special £500 bonus in addition to the value of the camera system traded in. The promotion runs until October 31st 2016.

Leica celebrates tenth anniversary of the digital M rangefinder

Special promotions launched to mark a full decade since the introduction of the first digital Leica M camera

In 2006, Leica set an important milestone in the history of M photography with the launch of its first digital rangefinder camera – the Leica M8. Today, the company is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the digital M with a series of promotions across the Leica M portfolio.

The Leica M8 marked the beginning of a new era, bringing the unique characteristics of rangefinder focusing technology into the world of digital photography. Later models, such as the Leica M9 (2009) – the first Leica rangefinder camera with a full-frame sensor – further built on this success and repeatedly set new standards with innovative features and functionality, while always retaining the basic principles of the Leica M-System. Thanks to this, all digital M models produced over the past ten years have one thing in common: a combination of advanced technology and decades of continuous development of the rangefinder concept, enabling even more creative freedom for the photographer.

The current generation of digital M cameras includes five models:

Leica M (Typ 240) – with high-resolution, full-frame CMOS sensor, Live View and full HD video

Leica M-P (Typ 240) – includes a sapphire glass LCD screen cover, frame selection lever and 2GB buffer memory

Leica M (Typ 262) – omits Live View and video and concentrates on essential features

Leica M-D (Typ 262) – the digital rangefinder without a screen

Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) – with a unique black and white sensor

Just like their analogue counterparts, the compact size, discreet design and quiet operation of the digital M rangefinder cameras make them ideal for reportage photography, allowing the photographer to shoot at the centre of the action. In addition, thanks to their intuitive controls and extremely user-friendly handling, photographers can concentrate completely on capturing their image.

The heart-of-the-action immediacy of the rangefinder principle, combined with a consistent focus on the highest quality and the essentials of photography, makes the Leica M the preferred camera for exceptional creative talents. Numerous iconic images have been captured and documented in history on the Leica M by prominent photographers around the world including Nick Ùt, Elliott Erwitt and Thomas Hoepker.

The timeless design, the meticulous German craftsmanship and the use of the finest materials in their construction guarantee an exceptionally long working life and enduring value, for both analogue and digital M models. Furthermore, all Leica M-Lenses manufactured since 1954 can be used with digital Leica M models, providing the photographer with an outstanding choice of lenses.

All these factors have contributed to the cult status and reputation that Leica rangefinder cameras have achieved over the past 60 years – a period that now includes a whole decade in the world of digital photography.

Leica UK is celebrating this anniversary with a number of special promotions, available at any authorised UK Leica System Dealer, Leica Boutique or Leica Store.
