Light and Colour in Morocco

A photography workshop on an Inspired Journey with Travel Photographer of the Year and cazenove+loyd

Travel Photographer of the Year founder and professional photographer Chris Coe is to lead a very special Inspired Journey photographic workshop in Morocco, in conjunction with cazenove+loyd. The seven-day adventure (April 27th – May 3rd 2014) takes participants to Marrakech and the High Atlas Mountains – providing a wealth of photographic opportunities in the historic city and glorious landscapes, all under Chris’s expert tuition.

Chris will teach participants about the craft of composition, while showing them how to capture the essence and atmosphere of Morocco in images which are full of colour and movement, and so much more than simply documentary. cazenove+loyd has carefully chosen two beautiful riyads for the small party to stay in and a fine selection of restaurants so that they can experience the best of Moroccan cuisine. It promises to be an unforgettable, creative and hugely enjoyable experience – the participants will find it hard to put their cameras down!

Chris’s objective is to help photographers take their skills to the next level, through one-to-one tuition within the small group. The locations have been specially chosen to help them build their photographic skills and confidence and the unhurried itinerary will allow them plenty of time to practice and enjoy the experience. They will learn how to understand light and how to control it, how to add impact to their images, and how to get to grips with the important technical functions of their cameras. During the journey, they will receive feedback and critiques of their images from Chris.

In Marrakech Chris will initially focus on the photography of people, movement and how to capture what makes this city so extraordinary. There will be private visits to local dyers, tanners and artisans in order for the group to take photographs away from the crowds and get under the skin of the city.

Meals will be at some of the city’s finest restaurants as well as dining in small and local venues, to get a true understanding of Marrakech. cazenove+loyd has exclusively hired The Riyad Edward in Marrakech in order for the group to have complete privacy and for Chris to give workshops and chat informally over dinner about his life as a photographer.

In contrast to the hubbub of the Medina, the photographers will be privately driven deep into the High Atlas Mountains where Chris will explain how to take photographs of these powerful landscapes in all lights. Each day guests will explore the beautiful mountains, visit local Berber villages and enjoy scenic picnics with unbroken views of the snow-capped peaks and lush valleys in Spring bloom, all while receiving photographic tuition from Chris.

The group will spend three nights in a remote kasbah perched high above the Ourika valley. Bab Ourika has been created with a simple, Moroccan style in keeping with the local Berber culture of the Atlas Mountains and there is a large pool for a refreshing swim at the end of a day’s trekking and photography. There will be rooms exclusively available for Chris to give talks on what the group has learnt each day, as well as fun and lively private dinners.

Prices for this memorable experience start at £1,975, to include all photography tuition, accommodation, full board meals, guiding and internal transfers. International flights and travel insurance are not included.
