An iPad/iPhone app named LightTrac 2.0, which helps photographers track the elevation and angle of Sun for any given date for any location on the planet, has been just released. Allowing photographers to plan their outdoor photo shoot ahead of time, the app is also useful as a location scout tool. The latest version of LightTrac also supports tracking the angle and elevation of Moon just like the Sun. Visimoon is yet another app that fully complements LightTrac by presenting you with a list of nights when Moon is visible at your location. Capturing images in best light has been the primary focus for photographers for a very long time. For outdoor photographers, this means being at the right spot when the sun angle and elevation is perfect, is most important.

An iPad/iPhone app named LightTrac ver 2.0 has been just released that helps photographers track the elevation and angle of Sun for any given date for any location on the planet. This is an invaluable planning tool as it allows photographers to plan their outdoor photoshoot ahead of time. Sun’s elevation and azimuth changes throughout the year depending on the hemisphere you’re located, so this is helpful even if you know your spots well.

LightTrac is also useful as a location scout tool. It plots three lines on top of a satellite map, each representing the angle of the sun at sunrise, sunset and the current displayed time. Dragging the time slider at the bottom, changes the selected time and displays the Sun’s elevation at the selected time along with plotting the Sun’s angle over the map. The latest version of LightTrac also supports tracking the angle and elevation of Moon just like the Sun. The new version also runs on the iPhone and iPod touch that are GPS capable.

Visimoon is yet another app that fully complements LightTrac for outdoor photographers. Visimoon removes any guess work out when it comes to photographing at Night by presenting you with a list of nights when Moon is visible at your location. Visimoon also includes a beautiful calendar that displays the Moon phases and provides the ability to setup reminders for full moon events etc.
