UKTV has announced a photography contest to celebrate the launch of its new Human Planet series on Eden and Eden HD. “This breathtaking eight-part series takes the viewer to meet the people who survive by building complex, exciting and often mutually beneficial relationships with their animal neighbours and the hostile elements of the natural world,” the company says. Photographer Timothy Allen has been shadowing the crew during the production of the series, documenting the lives of communities in the Arctic, tropical rainforest and remote desert locations. Those participating in Eden’s Living Portrait competition on Facebook by uploading a photo of what “their human planet” means to them are in for a chance to win a 2-day on-location photo-shoot with Timothy at La Merce Festival, Barcelona’s largest street party.

To celebrate the launch of the landmark Human Planet series exclusively on Eden and Eden HD (Chanel Sky 532, Virgin Media 208), we’re offering you a chance to accompany award winning Human Planet photographer, Timothy Allen, on a photo shoot at a festival in Barcelona!

Uniquely in the animal kingdom, humans have managed to adapt and thrive in every environment on Earth, and each episode of Human Planet takes us to the extremes of our planet: the arctic, mountains, oceans, jungles, grasslands, deserts, rivers and even the urban jungle.

This breathtaking eight-part series takes the viewer to meet the people who survive by building complex, exciting and often mutually beneficial relationships with their animal neighbours and the hostile elements of the natural world.

Human Planet crews have filmed in around 80 locations, and trekked with HD cameras and state-of-the-art gear to film from the air, from the ground and underwater. The result is a cinematic experience created by world-class natural history and documentary camera crews and programme makers.

Award-winning photographer, Timothy Allen, spent almost 2 years shadowing film crews during the production of this awe-inspiring series. His incredible images of communities in the Arctic, tropical rainforest and remote desert locations reflect the essence of Human Planet and are used to promote the episodes.

To be in with the chance of winning the opportunity of a lifetime and accompanying Timothy on a 2-day shoot at La Merce Festival, Barcelona’s largest street party, head to the Eden Facebook Page and enter our Living Portrait competition. All you have to do is simply upload a photo of what ‘your human planet’ means to you – it could be anything you find particularly inspiring and epitomises our human planet. All the entries will then be judged by Timothy himself!
