An End User’s Champion, Fraser’s Contributions to the Digital Imaging and Desktop Color Industry will be Celebrated in an Upbeat, Inspirational Multimedia Event on January 10

SAN FRANCISCO—Jan 03, 2007—Visual arts connoisseur, proud and humorous Scotsman, masterful musician, tireless digital imaging scientist and author, and peaceful Buddhist with more than a passing fancy for astronomy—Bruce Fraser was a renaissance man whose most outstanding characteristic was his humanity. In recognition of Bruce’s profound impact on shaping the development of digital imaging and color management products, and educating the hundreds of thousand of people who depend on these products in their daily work; Macworld Conference and Expo, the digital imaging and color management industry’s leading vendors, and famed publishing house Peachpit Press are pleased to invite all conference attendees, exhibitors and other interested friends, colleagues and fans to a gala tribute honoring the legendary consultant, author and lecturer Fraser, who passed away December 16. The tribute will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at the Moscone Center in room 134 in the North Hall.

Hosted by internationally renowned musician and photographer Graham Nash, the program will include a “Who’s Who” array of imaging luminaries and digital photography superstars who will share entertaining and inspiring, not-to-be-missed, “insider” tales of Bruce’s colorful life; plus accolades from the A-List of manufacturers whose products are forever improved by Bruce’s guidance. The program will culminate in a rousing, raised-glass Scottish toast featuring Fraser’s favorite Single-Malt Scotch in a heart-felt farewell to this beloved industry legend, the ultimate champion of the “end-user” and clarity in software design. (NOTE: Attendees must be at least 21 years of age to drink any alcoholic beverage in the State of California.)

The principal author of the best-selling Real World series of books about Adobe Photoshop and the definitive works Real World Color Management, Real World Camera Raw, and his recently published Real World Image Sharpening, Bruce has enlightened end users and experts worldwide on the intricacies of color publishing and imaging though his many lectures, product review and magazine columns. He is the expert’s expert and has collaborated with virtually every manufacturer and developer of color imaging products from the earliest days (including Adobe Systems, Inc., Apple Computer, Inc., Epson America, Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company, Microsoft Corporation, and X-Rite Inc.). Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Bruce became one of the world’s leading authorities on color and digital imaging. During his career Bruce has written hundreds of magazine articles. His amazing insights have made him a much sought-after speaker and consultant on image reproduction, color correction, and color management throughout the world. During his celebrated career, Bruce has written for Photoshop User, MacWeek and MacUser magazines, as well as penning the popular “Out of Gamut” column for CreativePro.com.

Bruce wielded enormous influence in the evolution of digital color management, and has become an industry legend by teaching color and effective means for its use in digital workflow. Since the early years, he has played an important consulting role in the development of Adobe Photoshop, including during that programs’ earliest incarnation when it was known as BarneyScan XP. He contributed to the introduction of the very first spectrophotometer targeting the desktop world – the COLORTRON – a product that pointed the way to current instruments deemed essential to successful color reproduction from the desktop.

In December 2002, he partnered with five other industry experts to form Pixel Genius LLC – a company dedicated to creating leading-edge products and services for the photographic and digital imaging industries.

On December 15, the day before his passing, Bruce received the first National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2005, Bruce was also recognized at Photoshop World when he was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame.

Far from a typical memorial, An Industry Celebration and Tribute to Bruce Fraser will be a lively and engaging recollection of how digital imaging and desktop color has evolved over more than 20 years to become the everyday phenomenon it is. Filled with striking still visuals, video clips and told by the geeks and non-geeks who knew Bruce along the way, (including famed landscape photographer and digital pioneer Stephen Johnson; Bill Atkinson, an Apple Fellow and now a photographer himself; renowned celebrity photographer Greg Gorman; and Adobe Photoshop engineers and friends, Thomas Knoll and Mark Hamburg, to name but a few), An Industry Celebration and Tribute to Bruce Fraser will give attendees a vivid, inside look at how one dedicated and focused person of extraordinary humility could shape an industry, from billion dollar manufacturers to home-based photo enthusiasts.

How to Attend the Tribute
Anyone already registered in any capacity for the 2007 Macworld Conference and Expo in San Francisco need only show their conference badge at the door of the Tribute. Persons not attending the Macworld Conference and Expo can receive a complimentary pass admitting them to the Tribute by sending an email to [email protected] with “Event Pass” in the “Subject” line. Instructions for obtaining one of these passes will be immediately returned by reply email. There are a limited number of these free passes available and they will be released on a first-come first-served basis.
