Management Succession at Sony in Europe

Tokyo, Japan and Berlin, Germany, 20th September 2005 - Sony Corporation today announced that Chris Deering, President of Sony Europe has decided to retire from Sony, in order to pursue personal opportunities in the U.S., where his family now resides. Effective November 1, 2005, Mr. Deering will be succeeded by Fujio Nishida, who currently serves as EVP, Corporate Executive, in charge of Electronics Marketing at Sony Corporation in Tokyo. During the coming weeks Messrs. Deering and Nishida will work closely together to facilitate a smooth transition of responsibilities, after which Mr. Deering will continue to work with the company in a consulting capacity.

Chris Deering was appointed President of Sony Europe in April 2004 after a highly successful career at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), of which he was founding President in 1995. At SCEE Mr. Deering built the team which managed the introduction of PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PSP across one hundred countries and have cumulatively sold over 70 million consoles, making PlayStation number one gaming franchise in the market. Since assuming responsibility as President of Sony Europe, Mr. Deering has worked closely across all businesses to rationalize and reduce costs, while at the same time strengthening the overall country Sales and Marketing operations.

Fujio Nishida has spent the majority of his career at Sony outside Japan, including Canada, Australia and the United States. He is a veteran marketing executive with deep experience of global markets. Before becoming EVP in charge of Electronics Marketing, Fujio Nishida was with Sony Electronics Inc. in the U.S. for seven years, the latter three years as President and COO.
