Marwell Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013

Entries are now open for Marwell's Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 awards. This year, the competition has four categories and judges will assess entries for photographic excellence, high quality and composition. The categories are Native Wildlife, Cute and Funny, Marwell Wildlife Residents and Marwell Wildlife Endangered. The top prize is a trip to Sweden with professional photographer Nick Garbutt, courtesy of which is worth over £1,395. Other prizes include a special day at the zoo incorporating a Junior Keeper Experience and a half day safari with Nick Garbutt worth £475, Annual Memberships to Marwell Zoo, behind the scenes animal encounters, camera equipment and lots more. Entry to the competition costs £5 for adults and is free for juniors. The deadline for entries is 14 September 2013.

Hampshire’s prestigious wildlife photography competition returns
Entries are now open for Marwell's Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013, which is sponsored by Winchester based travel company Wildlife Worldwide.
Celebrating the variety of wildlife, Marwell’s photography competition is open to professional, amateur and young photographers alike.
This year’s top prize is a trip to Sweden with professional photographer Nick Garbutt, courtesy of Wildlife Worldwide.
This is the fourth year Marwell has run Wildlife Photographer of the Year. During this time, judges have seen thousands of stunning images from professional, amateur and young photographers alike.
This year, the competition has four categories and judges will assess entries for photographic excellence, high quality and composition.
The categories are:
Native Wildlife – flora and fauna native or resident in the British Isles
Cute and Funny – mother nature at her cutest or most amusing
Marwell Wildlife residents
Marwell Wildlife endangered – species at Marwell specifically classified by IUCN as endangered or critically endangered
This year’s competition judges include Award-winning professional wildlife photographer, author and lecturer Heather Angel, Deputy Editor of Practical Photography Magazine Ben Hawkins and Picture Editor of the Daily Echo Paul Collins. Wildlife Television Producer and Presenter Philippa Forrester will also be helping to judge the Junior Categories.

All entries can also receive a FREE copy of Practical Photography magazine.
Entry to the competition costs £5 for adults and is FREE for juniors. Don't worry if you're struggling to find your top 5 photos to enter - you can enter twice and up to 10 images if you like.

Wildlife Worldwide have collaborated with Beyond Carbon to sponsor this year’s competition and help Marwell’s conservation work with Grevy’s Zebra in Africa. Beyond Carbon helps protect the world’s threatened environments, its wildlife and indigenous people by connecting businesses with outstanding projects in the UK and overseas.
Wildlife Worldwide are delighted to channel much of their charitable funding through Beyond Carbon and thereby ensure that the projects they help to fund are well researched and fully sustainable.
The funds will contribute towards Marwell’s field work to promote conservation awareness, as well as training workshops for newly recruited community scouts in data-collection methods.
